Taaza Khabar Review: A Mixed Bag Series With Supremely Enjoyable Star Cast

Bhuvan Bam aced in his first OTT series Taaza Khabar, and I ought to tell you how excellent the screenplay was. Directed by Himank Gaur, the web series contains six episodes that show how Vasant Gowde (Bhuvan Bam) tries his best to change his struggle-some life. While everything in Vasant’s life goes on a downward spiral, a blessing changes his life.

Taaza Khabar Review

In the very first episode, we can see Vasant dreaming about him becoming rich. We also see that he manages the public latrine and aids his family. On a side note, he also has a girlfriend called Madhu, a sex worker. On his birthday, when things are already messing with his life, something terrible happens to him. However, that’s when a blessing also caves in.

The series felt like a blend of a fairytale with a moral. A spice of a magical witch, a good person finally getting rid of slavery, a sex worker saved by a knight in shining armour, best friends sticking together, etc., are some of the themes applied in a realistic way. What baffled me was the unique storyline and the plot twist at the end.

Additionally, the writers have brought in ecstatic characters to make the plot sound wholesome. Vasant is such a sweetheart, and he is madly in love with Madhu, a sex worker. He aims to take her out of the brothel. He has no ill judgments towards her, and the way their relationship blossoms also feels beautiful.

We can also see the remarkable friendship between Raja and Vasant, how Mehboob gave Raja and Vasant a career when they were kids, and the bond they have; it all adds magnificently to the plot. The supporting roles weren’t stuffed but had a massive significance in the story,

Taaza Khabar: Cast

Truth be told, this is the first time I’m watching Bhuvan Bam’s work. His acting was exemplary, his emotions were raw, and the dialogues were executed proficiently. There wasn’t any dramatic acting going on; instead, it felt natural. Bhuvan is the only one who can instantly change his mood from being funny and romantic to highly hyped. Loved his acting a hundred per cent.

Speaking of Shriya Pilgaonkar, who acted as Madhu, she was splendid. There was a natural aura around her when she came on screen. The pain and misery in her eyes, blinded by the lights, were shown profoundly. Moreover, her role required nerve, and she gave it all. The best!

Shilpa Shukla, who stars as the queen of the brothel, nailed her character. From the dress to how she manages all the outcomes around her, the audience got to see how exactly sex workers’ lives go about. Then we have J. D. Chakravarthy as the politician representing how nasty rich people can exploit others.

Notably, I have to mention Deven Bhojani’s role. From the first episode, this man had warmth around him. Starring as Mehboob, Deven Bhojani perfectly portrayed the reality of a hard-working man and a father. His love towards his daughter and, of course, Vasant and Raja showed how innocent he was. He deserved all the love, honestly.

Concerning the comedy aspect, Prathamesh Parab, who acted as Raja, did a stunning act. The “jatti” dialogue got locked in my heart because of the way he told it. Prathamesh has the humour running in his veins, I say. The man’s presence alone made me gag. Apart from the humour, his character showed a kind demeanour and set a great example of how friendships should be. Bravado.

Notably, Nitya Mathur also did a fantastic job. Nitya Mathur plays Mehboob’s daughter, Shazia, who is a genius. Without her aid, Vasant’s game wouldn’t have widened. Her little romance and her brain is a beauty to watch. Nitya Mathur, surprisingly, stole the show of specific episodes.

Taaza Khabar: Cinematography, Editing, Soundtrack

The moment the broken phone of Vasant had the rays coming, I knew the series editing would be a killer. The cinematography and editing blended so well that I am satisfied. The angles kept from a neighbour’s window to the food tray being pulled were splendid.

As the first few episodes contain scenes in the public latrine, we can expect grotesque images; that’s why I loved the cinematography. Even during a fight scene, the camera showing from inside the water (you’ll know what I’m talking about when you watch the series), gave me a frill. Good job, team!

Additionally, the soundtrack of the series was a great deal. The rap song towards the end couldn’t have been more impressive than that. Indeed, the music department picked up the finest background scores to help the series emit the message.

Final Verdict

You have to stream it. There isn’t any con for me. While the ending shook my heart, it still made sense. A content creator’s first-ever OTT debut being this eminent is a new thing to witness. That said, Taaza Khabar stood out according to me.

Moreover, you can watch it once, and I don’t think any particular aspect will make you want to rewatch it. Well, for Bhuvan Bam, you can (he is a hot mess).

Taaza Khabar is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar now. Watch it and let us know your comments.
