Your Name and Weathering With You director Makoto Shinkai is back with another breathtaking creation Suzume no Tojimari and we are excited after the trailer showed us what is to come. With Kenichi Tsuchiya as the animation director, Nanoka Hara and Hokuto Matsumura have given their voices to the main characters Suzume and Sōtarespectively.
Suzume no Tojimari brings the story of 17-year-old Suzume who, after an encounter with a young man looking for a “Door”, travels to look for an old door at an abandoned house in the mountains. Mesmerised by an invisible power, she opens the door which leads to the opening of “Doors of Disaster” opening all across Japan starting a series of disasters.
Now, she sets on a journey to close these doors and put a stop to the unfortunate events that loom over the people.
The trailer of the movie starts with Suzume’s encounter with a young man who asks her “Is there a door nearby?” With scenes of a door standing in the middle of an abandoned building, we next see Suzume opening the door and welcoming a series of disasters.

She soon understands that she has made a mistake and helps Sōta to close the first door while his voice in the background gives her an explanation about the “Doors of Disaster”. These doors appear in lonely places that people have forgotten about and bring disasters when opened.
Right then a mysterious cat appears at her window and tells her that it likes her, however, Sōta who is right behind her is in the way and is turned into a chair. Next, we see Sōta running behind the cat while Suzume follows the two, but is told off by him when she finally catches up.
Unable to ignore the man who has turned into a chair, she sets on a journey to find the cat. Elsewhere, the cat stands against an evil backdrop while speaking about the upcoming disaster that is going to kill a lot of people. After a turn of events, Sōta passes on the mantle to Suzume as he gives her the task to close the doors.
Unable to bear Sōta’s failure, she goes on to fix the wrongs so that he can return because she has finally realised that a world without him is scarier than the journey ahead. As she gets in touch with people across the country and continues to close the doors one by one, she leaves behind the promise of meeting them again.
The trailer is just a sneak peek of the magic that is about to come on screen very soon and this unforgettable journey of Suzume’s is one to look forward to.
Suzume no Tojimari is set to release on November 11, 2022, in theatres across Japan. Crunchyroll, Sony Pictures and Wild Bunch International with then be releasing the movie across the world in early 2023.
