Still Shining Episode 4 Recap

The episode begins with Tae-seo visiting his parents’ graveyard and giving input about his life. As he tearfully speaks, the time skips and we see him as a train driver. Life seems fine with him crafting photo frames at home as a hobby and also covering his day shifts as a train driver. One day when he proceeds to work and listens to songs, his phone notification mentions about another device using his music account and he immediately knows it is Eun-a.

On the other side, we see Eun-a tearfully hear music as she stares at her father’s picture, indicating he is no more. Eun-a is seen moving back and arranging her home at the town. Just when life feels messy, hearing Tae-seo’s voice in the metro stops her heart. She realises he is the one driving the train but before she can figure, Seong-chan arrives and asks her to return back. Tae-seo witnesses this from the other side of the platform and rushes to see Eun-a.

With Eun-a and Tae-seo having an intense contact, they only walk away in the other direction instead of confronting. Outside, Seong-chan and Eun-a argue about their business and we understand they both are business partners. However, we’re unsure whether they’re dating or they dated once.

Later on, Tae-seo learns about Eun-a planning to demolish her home. This prompts him to travel back in town, meet his grandparents, younger brother and watch out for Eun-a. Unaware of Tae-seo being at the town, Eun-a often visits the station to somehow see him. One day, Eun-a receives the phone number of Tae-seo with a message from the town’s old lady regarding him visiting and enquiring about her.

Knowing that Tae-seo is worried about her, Eun-a calls. Tae-seo calls back after seeing the missed call and the two have a brief conversation where he doesn’t ask much about Seong-chan and her, but just gives her brief comforting words. The following day, the two, with the intention of meeting each other, go to the station.

Just when they think they won’t find each other, they finally do but they turn their backs to each other and walk away, once again. Eun-a breaks down and gathers herself to leave only to find Tae-seo waiting for her. The episode ends with him telling, “it’s been a while.”

Still Shining Episode 4 Review

Why did they break up and now why are they all teary-eyed and nonsense? I get it that life pushed them to the point where they took their space. But seriously, why does it always have to be like this? Why do couples split whenever life becomes heavy instead of handling things together. Anyway, I don’t want to talk logically given this is a series.

Coming to the plot, it seems to be building well. The sound design and cinematography fit the narrative well and good. I’m still waiting to have one episode where we’ll learn the core of the series because so far, the narrative feels cliche and boring. But since the actors are skilled, it is watchable.
