SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star have a fan following of all ages. The cartoon characters have shaped many people’s childhood and are an amazing example of how best friends are. But what if we tell you that there’s a video with real-life SpongeBob and Patrick Star?

Recently, Oceanographers found real-life SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star together on the rock at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Thankfully, they have recorded this iconic scene on the camera for the world to see it. On Twitter, marine scientist Christopher Mah shared the pic, and NowThis page late shared the entire video.

Christopher Mah tweeted, “laugh I normally avoid these refs..but WOW. REAL LIFE Sponge bob and Patrick! #Okeanos Retreiver seamount 1885 m”. He revealed real-life SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star’s scientific names: Hertwigia (sponge) and Chondraster (starfish) #Okeanos.

In their tweets, NowThis wrote, “A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration camera was filming the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument off the New England coast when a yellow sponge appeared aside a pink starfish.”

In an interaction with Insider, Christopher Mah said, “I thought it would be funny to make the comparison, which for once was actually kind of comparable to the iconic images/colors of the cartoon characters. As a biologist who specializes in sea stars, most depictions of Patrick and Spongebob are incorrect.”

Mah said that Sea sponges are a favourite menu item for Chondraster stars. According to him, the pink Patrick-like creature near the sponge was probably looking for food rather than friendship.
