Internet Shut Down has become a huge topic of discussion since last night. If you are one of those who are not into social media, let us tell you what happened. At 9 pm (IST) on October 4, popular social media apps like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp stopped working. Users freaked out a bit as most of them thought it’s their phone or internet connection that has stopped working.
Thankfully, Twitter is not owned by the same company so the bird app site was fully functional. A lot of people shared memes on Twitter to make fun of the social media sites that stopped working. Twitter also decided to have fun and tweeted, “hello literally everyone”. Instagram replied, “Hi and happy Monday”, Microsoft wrote, “*unmutes mic* Hey everyone.” Alexa also decided to have fun and tweeted, “I don’t have hands so I’ll just say Hi five times… Hi Hi Hi Hi Hi!” McDonald’s Canada asked, “how r u handling the fame”.
Basically, a lot of social media sites and big brands joined the conversation of Internet Shut Down. But the best part was all the memes. People from all over the world came together and flaunted their amazing humour with Internet Shut Down memes. These memes will leave you in splits. Now that some apps are started working, users are happy. But thanks to Twitter, they didn’t suffer much yesterday.

Meanwhile, in their statement, Facebook said – “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.
To the huge community of people and businesses around the world who depend on us: we’re sorry. We’ve been working hard to restore access to our apps and services and are happy to report they are coming back online now. Thank you for bearing with us.”
