Spice and Wolf Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 8 Overview

The talented author Isuna Hasekura has written this remarkable series as a light novel, which is beautifully illustrated by Jū Ayakura. The story is directed by Takahashi Takeo and Sanpei Hijiri, and it follows the life of a travelling merchant who, one day, finds a young, naked woman sleeping in his carriage.

The anime series features the musical contributions of ClariS and Hope Hana for the theme songs, and Penkin Kevin for the overall score. The series has received official licensing from Crunchyroll, whereas TV Tokyo and AT-X are the original providers of the broadcast.

Episode 8 of Spice and Wolf Reboot 2024 can also be called the 8th episode of Ōkami to Kōshinryō (狼と香辛料).

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Spice and Wolf Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 8 Review and Recap – Holo Is Jealous

Spice and Wolf Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 8 Review A New Girl Joins The Ride

This episode begins with the part where we see the arrival of a mysterious character who leaves quite an impression on our protagonists. She is Nora, who is a shepherd, skilled at driving away werewolves, with the help of her highly trained dog. Though people were scared to traverse the road she was on because of misunderstanding that she might be a pagan sorcerer, she is nothing more than a normal shepherd, who just wishes to work.

This anime has from the very beginning talked about the apparent intolerance the people of the Pagan religion face at the hands of the church. They execute anyone who does not follow their traditions and actively promote the hunting and killing of werewolves like Holo. Hence, this is more of a problem for Lawrence as the town that he is travelling to is very strict with their religious practices and extreme beliefs.

Thus, when he gets the opportunity to hire Nora as his bodyguard for the rest of his journey, Lawrence accepts the idea. This however was met with apparent dislike from Holo, who is very much not comfortable with this new addition. Other than that, she’s also jealous of the attention that Lawrence gives to Nora, and it’s cute to see our main couple banter and develop their relationship further.

In this episode, we also get an uncomfortable feeling when Lawrence enters the new city. After hearing that Lawrence is going to deal with armours of a particularly great quality, almost every official from the city acts suspiciously. However, thankfully, Lawrence is not alone here as there is a merchant association from his home which is there to protect him. The person there even treats Lawrence like his own son, and we get the feeling that Lawrence was raised under this man’s care from a very young age.

Verdict

This episode was nice with some picturesque scenes and landscapes. The new character definitely put Holo in a bad mood but also reaffirmed the fact that she does like Lawrence. There is a weird vibe towards the end of the episode, so it would be interesting to see what it is next week. I ask you to stay tuned as well.
