Happy Birthday Son Ye-jin: Here are 5 Interesting Facts About the Korean Icon

Son Ye-jin is a massive icon in South Korea, so much so that her influence has even graced the global market. With her acting in dramas like Crash Landing on You and Something in the Rain and in movies like A Moment to Remember and The Last Princess, she has really shown how versatile her talents are. Born on January 11, 1982, she made her debut in the film Secret Tears (2001) when she was just 18 years old. Now at 41, she has managed to build a career with projects like no other. Here are some facts that make her even more inspiring:

Versatility in Genre

Son Ye-jin has never backed down from a challenge especially when it comes to the genre of films she will be acting in. That includes historical fiction for projects like The Great Ambition and The Last Princess, romance like Crash Landing on You and Thirty-Nine and thrillers like White Night and The Truth Beneath. She has admitted that she is interested in taking roles out of her comfort zone since acting is an outlet for her emotions. She has been taking up challenging roles since she was 23, and is now happy with playing a wide range of characters.

Philanthropical Nature

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Son Ye-Jin donated 100 million won to the Daegu branch of the Community Chest of Korea. This donation was used to help the city combat the coronavirus and keep the people in the city safe. She noted at the time how her hometown is a place special to her, it is also somewhere her parents still live and where she was born and raised. The news of the COVID-19 outbreak really affected her.

She hoped that her donation would make some difference to the people living there. Especially those in low-income households who need more help than ever. The money was donated for the purposes of getting medical supplies and implementing prevention strategies in the city.

TRX Instructor

Apart from working extremely hard on the acting side of the industry, Son Ye-Jin also has been working hard in the fitness field. So much so, that she has an instructor’s license in TRX (Total Resistance Exercises). She got this license about 10 years ago and still continues to teach and do this workout. It is one of difficulty and uses exercises to specifically target muscle groups for balanced physical training. As if this isn’t enough, Ye Jin is also known to play golf and considers herself a beginner in the sport.

Son Ye-Jin: The Queen of Melodramas

While Son Ye-Jin doesn’t shy away from a challenge, she has a particular affinity towards drama. Because of her acumen and skill in this genre, she has been dubbed the ‘queen of melodramas,’ a name she does not take lightly. She has over 2 decades of work in her roster spanning over 10 K-Dramas, 21 movies, 50 awards, and 72 nominations. Known as the ‘Hallyu Queen,’ she has truly proved herself as an exemplary artist for decades to come.

Hollywood Debut in the Cards

In 2020, multiple news platforms regaled her entry into Hollywood when a collaboration with Australian actor Sam Worthington was announced. Son Ye-Jin along with Lee Sun-Gyun were in talks to join the film Cross along with Worthington. The film has been in development for years but this news propelled Ye Jin further into the world as an actor.
