Somebody: New Stills of the Chilling K-drama Reveal Laid-back Off-screen Smiles

It’s always a conflicting vision to witness the actors of an overtly dark and nail-biting thriller series like Netflix’s upcoming Somebody in bright demeanors off-set. The Swoon has shared some behind-the-scene moments between the cast and crew of the k-drama where all of them can be seen sporting wide smiles, even Kim Young-kwang, who otherwise plays the maniacal serial killer of sorts on the show.

Both the leading actors including Kang Hae-rim, playing the role of Kim Sum, are deeply engaged in their work process, taking notes of the scenes along with the crew members working their way into the story. Monitoring their respective performances and exchanging dialogue with the crew, the cast is either all busy or seen trading goofy moments when they’re not in front of the camera.

Somebody

The forthcoming drama has been directed by Jung Ji-woo and written by Han Ji-wan and also stars Kim Yong-ji and Kim Soo-yeon. Releasing this November, the show is all about how the titular named dating app brings the charmingly eccentric Sung Yun-oh and the socially awkward Kim Sum, who finds it easy to feel lonely quite often, together. The latter is also the developer of the app and is friends with Gi-eun (Kim Soo-yeon) who is a detective.

Kim Young-kwang’s Sung Yun-oh is ostensibly an architectural designer but something about him seems incongruous as his outlook makes you wonder what all secrets he’s been hiding. Yet Sum looks past all those markers when she meets the man, thinking she has finally found somebody who gets her and fits with her.

Soon, a murder case is roped in and Sum’s friend is the leading detective on the case. It all comes down to Sum’s app, as it seemed to have formed the meeting ground between the killer and the new victim. Kim Yong-ji’s Mok-won is yet another detective on the case working alongside Gi-eun.

The leading actor Kim Young-kwang was last seen in A Year-End Medley: Extended Version (2022) as Seung Hyo and as Han Yoo-hyun in Hello, Me (2021). He also has new projects lined up after this Netflix series titled Tell Me It’s Love and Mission 2: Possible.
