As part of her second full album released on March 14, 2023, Episode1: Love, SoYoON has put out the leading title Smoke Sprite MV, which also features RM of BTS. Keeping the signature soundscape of her indie rock South Korean band SE SO NEON alive in her solo venture as well, the artist’s track and its music video bring a dark, eccentric and unique aesthetic onboard.

The song’s teasers had already captured the BTS ARMYs interest as soon as it was announced that Kim Namjoon would be joining the vocalist, songwriter, or guitarist of the rock band for this collaboration. Now that the video is out, it’s unlike anything the fans of the K-pop septet have witnessed before because SoYoON’s music is distinctly disparate from what RM’s boy group has put out into the world.
Smoke Sprite is the second song on the album’s tracklist and it shows off SoYoON’s grave vocals, while the video visualises her running through a snow-clad environ, with sunburns all over her body depicting how long she’s been running for. Later on, RM enjoys his solo screen time in the MV as he belts out his verse, which is followed by him coming together with the leading singer as they stand back-to-back and perform the final verses of the song.
As opposed to the common incorporation of high notes in K-pop songs, this one keeps things mellow. Both of the singers’ raspy vocals take over the track and their blended union complements the video concept, making them the ultimate artistic pair that we didn’t know we needed until we witnessed the harmonious magic created by them on screen.

Episode1: Love‘s tracklist has eleven songs as follows, IN (Void), Smoke Sprite, Till the sun goes up, Bad, why don’t you take me out (skit), Gave you all my love (feat. jibin of Y2K92), zone out; (skit), EXIT LOVE (a secret visitor) (feat. parkjiyoon), CANADA, and OUT (to be continued…). This album comes after her first solo self-titled EP released in 2019.
The BTS member isn’t the only other artist featured on Episode1: Love. Jibin of Y2K92 and Park Ji-yoon have also collaborated with the indie rock singer, latter of whom also joined forces with RM on his solo debut album Indigo for the song No. 2.
