Sky High The Series (Hasta El Cielo La Serie) picks up the story right after Angel’s crash and how Sole deals with everything. The series is created and directed by Daniel Calparsoro and the screenplay is written by Jorge Guerricaechevarría. It is produced by Vaca Films with executive producers Jorge, Borja Pena and Emma Lustres.
The ensemble cast of the series includes Asia Ortega Leiva as Sole, Luis Tosar as Rogelio, Álvaro Rico as Fernan, Richard Holmes as Poli, Patricia Vico as Mercedes, Fernando Cayo as Duque, Alana La Hija del Jeque as Rosa, Áyax Pedrosa as Motos, Dollar Selmouni as Gitano, Jarfaiter as Toño and Carmen Sánchez as Marta.
Netflix’s description of the series reads:
When her husband dies, Sole decides that the best way to take care of her son is to become a crime boss — even if that means being her father’s enemy
-Sky High The Series Review Does Not Contain Any Spoilers-
The series continues the plot of the film telling the story of the gang of thieves that has managed to put the Madrid police force in check, entangled in robberies, shady deals and black money until they meet Duque, a detective who just wants to do his job right and won’t stop until he catches Rogelio this time.
Meanwhile, Sole is devastated after receiving a call in the middle of the night about her husband’s death, who was also the leader of the gang. Overnight she has turned into a young widow with a son to take care of and a lot of business problems to deal with, in Ángel’s absence. Although she has the option of going back to her father Rogelio, who is one of the biggest dealers of stolen objects in Madrid, she wants to take charge of her life.
But more than Ángel, she seems to feel guilty about Estrella’s death as some big bucks that belonged to the Chinese money launderers, were never recovered & could be behind her death. While Sole believes that they took their money back, the Chinese believe that she has kept the money for herself. This leads to some major complications in the business and Sole’s life who has to pay the price of her husband’s unsettled debts.

While it was already revealed who killed Estrella and under whose command, the series take too long to reveal it to the main character. I expected the wedge between Sole and Rogelio to be widened further by at least the third episode so that we could see the established father standing off against his emerging leader daughter.
But I guess the creators plan to stretch it for many more seasons and decide to go at a snail’s pace so that absolutely nothing worthwhile happens in the seven episodes. It has all the popular elements of an action crime thriller with betrayals among characters, hidden secrets that could destroy relationships, secret agents, adrenaline-filled action scenes and meddling of international organizations but the story remains in one place.
I want to root for Sole and her determination to take control of everything but just when any inconvenience happens, she is back at her father’s mercy. This makes me agree with Rogelio at times that maybe she is not ready for it or is too immature.

Asia Ortega Leiva and Luis Tosar definitely bring their best to the table and with the addition of Álvaro Rico as a secret agent, there was some anticipation but it doesn’t hold for long. Rico’s character had so much potential to bring the thrill of snooping in the lion’s den and the fear of getting caught. But he seems rather comfortable, doing not much and they focus more on the love story which makes it very predictable what his final decision will be like.
Summing Up: Sky High The Series
If you like some good action-packed story then you will definitely like it and even if you haven’t watched the film, the series briefly walks through whatever happened in the past. But if you were looking for something more and discover how the story shapes with Asia Ortega taking over the lead, then in my opinion we have to wait for another season to drop, if it even happens.
The ending was very non-conclusive whereas the ending scene should have come at the midpoint and shown what does Sole chooses to do. Despite being the lead she is still hovering around like a puppet which gets swayed by different people, instead of playing according to her rules.
Sky High The Series is currently streaming on Netflix.
