Sins of Kujo Ending Explained
In Sins of Kujo, we see seemingly crooked lawyer Kujo Taiza defending the undefendable of society – from petty thieves to the yakuza. Joining him is a righteous lawyer, Karasuma Shinji, who is there with Kujo for his own personal reasons. Together, they solve cases for many different people, though at every point, Karasuma, unhappy with Kujo’s choices and muddy ethics, finds him taking the right path in one way or another, even as he always tries to do right by his client.
The series progresses as we see Kujo’s involvement with the yakuza growing day by day, as his work with Mibu Kengo draws him closer to those no one wants to get close to. Following the yakuza, and as a result of his involvement, Detective Arashiyama Yoshinobu has sworn to take down these people in one way or another.

What was Karasuma’s connection with Kujo?
From the onset, we are told that Karasuma and Kujo have a childhood connection. We finally learn the whole picture by piecing together information scattered throughout the episodes, in which we learn that Karasuma’s father saved a man from being murdered and was lauded as a hero. However, a tabloid, to get clicks and views, turned him into a villain by alluding to him being a pervert and having affairs with women. As tensions grew against him, his father was ultimately murdered by a deranged man who wanted to get rid of bad influences in society.

This man was sentenced to the death penalty by Kujo’s father, but a young Kujo, who was present during the hearing, was unhappy with this, as he thought that the death penalty for a mentally unstable perpetrator was too much, calling it unfair. Karasuma, also very young, overheard this conversation and immediately wanted to get close to Kujo to understand his motivations.
Why is Kujo estranged from his family?
Kujo’s family wanted him to be a prosecutor like his father and brother, but he refused, as his goal was to become a lawyer and protect the more dangerous section of society. As a result, his family disowned him because, according to them, he brought shame to them.

Does Kujo leave his sinful working methods behind in the end?
In the end, despite the threats coming to him from all spheres, including the yakuza’s foundation being shaken thanks to Mubi’s men kidnapping Kyogoku Kiyoshi’s son, Kujo continues to work on his path. He is okay with getting his hands dirty to help these people and bring justice to them. As a result of this, Karasuma leaves him and goes on his own path, leaving Kujo alone once more.
