Shutter 2025 Review
If you have watched any version of Shutter, whether it be the Thai or the English one, you will be very intimately familiar with the storyline of the ghost from the past haunting a photographer and his friends. When you watch the story for the first time, it leaves chills down your spine, especially the horrific ending that is quiet but extremely powerful and leaves us rather heartbroken and hopeless.
Thus, Shutter Indonesia is already at a disadvantage, as we already know the core story and how it will end. The only thing that can move us is the emotions behind the ghosts’ haunting and even a few twists that add to the tension. However, in a rather amusing turn of events, Shutter 2025 movie is almost similar to its previous counterparts, right down to how people die and the sequence of events taking us to the end of the runtime.

It’s almost arranged scene-by-scene like the original, and makes you wonder the point of it all. It tries to maintain a consistent eerie tone, but it doesn’t go anywhere because, firstly, we know what’s going to happen, and secondly, the plot and characters seriously lack depth to make us root for them. However, I think the biggest problem with remakes is that they just don’t have the uniqueness of watching a story for the first time, especially one that is as popular as Shutter.
Thus, I didn’t understand the point of remaking this film, especially without adding anything new to the table. Even if we keep the remaking at the back of our minds, the horror moments are overdone and will seem obvious to fans of the genre. The way the storyline unfolds is repetitive, and other than some eerie moments, there’s nothing to truly hold us to the mystery. I think reinventing the story and adding something new to it would’ve made for an interesting watch. However, now you just wonder what the point of it all is.

I think the performances also lack a lot. Other than that, Vino G. Bastian, no one else stood out in the film and seemed to exist to push the story forward. I also found Bastian a bit out of place in the film at 44. You can see the age difference between him and Anya Geraldine’s Pia a bit too well. Horror moments were fine, but nothing beyond that. It’s not really scary, but it has some emotional beats to it. But, then again, we already know where the movie is going, so that takes away from the film by a lot.
Final Thoughts

In the end, Shutter 2025 is predictable and a snoozefest. The performances aren’t great, and the storyline is done to death to such a degree that it makes you wonder the point of rehashing an uber-popular film that remains rent-free in our minds even now.
