-Shrinking Episode 9 Recap Does Contain Spoilers-
Shrinking Episode 9 starts with the trio of therapists returning to what they do best, which is some solid therapy. As usual, Paul and Gaby stick to their decided patterns and strengths, while Jimmy wishes to remain on an improvising streak. The post-grieving therapist takes his client to a stadium, in order to help with his wish to spread the ashes of her mother (something which might not be so visibly odd after observing Jimmy’s streak of client).
Moreover, after this weird yet necessary episode opener, the instalment leans into the usual trifecta of events. At first, we find Jimmy amongst the memories of his dead wife, but this time more mature and stable about his emotions. He makes sure to reconnect with Alice and discuss about his playlist and songs before he ventures off to work again.
Right after this, Jimmy lands himself in the company of Paul, who already has a couple of things in his head. The veteran therapist remarks about the lifetime achievement award that he is receiving in Las Vegas, and how it literally means nothing to him. Moreover, Jimmy states that this award might be a good thing after all, as he will get a definitive chance to bond with his daughter Meg.
However, Paul still remains unsure about the ordeal, especially from a piece of advice coming directly from Jimmy. On the other hand, Gaby meets up with his ex-husband, to sort out the outburst at the exhibition ceremony. They both settle down things and apologies for each other’s harsh comments.

However, Gaby’s ex-husband tries to make a move on her and get things back on track, with some casual flirting. This in turn results in another friendly hook-up between Jimmy and Gaby, as part of their no strings attached deal. Even though the therapy colleagues made up their minds not to repeat the mistake, they get on with it anyway.
The rest of the episode follows a business idea from Sean, which he proposes to Liz and her husband. Moreover, with a little help from Alice and Gaby, they end up convincing the friendly neighbour, for an initial round of investment. On the work front, Paul fails to convey the invitation thing to Meg and instead makes her more frustrated with him. However, this time around, the veteran therapist takes his date to his grandson’s play and patches things with her daughter.
In the end, when Jimmy observes that everything is at peace, Alice remarks about forgetting her mother’s birthday. And just when things were becoming normal, things return to their normal state.
Shrinking Episode 9 Review

The episode is successful in establishing a positive atmosphere before the season finale. It doesn’t give into much of the settling trauma and focuses entirely on the brighter side. Furthermore, the instalment also highlights Jimmy’s recovery from the past and his character progression.
So far, Shrinking has turned out to be a top-notch dramedy series with little to no loopholes. Nearly everything fits in the right place and makes up for a befitting show. Although there are some hard-hitting moments in the series, the humour compensates for the darker aspects.
The season finale will definitely tie up the loose ends, in terms of Sean and Alice, Jimmy and Gaby and Paul’s reconnection with his daughter. Whatever the case may be, it all hints towards a happy ending.
