Intimacy is a Netflix original thriller series which was recently released on Netflix globally in June. The series is created by Verónica Fernández and Laura Sarmiento and follows the lives of four women who are compelled to walk the delicate line between what belongs in public and private life. Designated Survivor (2016)

Designated Survivor is a crime drama TV series that first aired on first on ABC and then exclusively on Netflix for its final season. The plot of the series reads as – America’s fate rests in the hands of a low-level official after an attack on Washington decimates the government in this gripping political thriller. The role of Thomas Kirkman played by Kiefer Sutherland becomes President of the United States after a catastrophic attack kills everyone above him in the line of succession.

There are 3 seasons in total and the first two seasons were broadcasted on TV but not renewed for another season even though they had accumulated a big viewership. In September 2018, Netflix and Entertainment One announced they had reached a deal to pick up Designated Survivor for a third season, which was finally released in 2019. Ingobernable (2017)

Ingobernable is a Mexican political drama that exposes the dark world of a young President of the country. The show is about the first lady of Mexico who is a woman of conviction and ideals. But when she loses faith in her husband, she’ll need all her strength to uncover the truth. There are two seasons of the show which is created by Epigmenio Ibarra, Natassja Ibarra, Verónica Velasco.

The name of the show means ungovernable and that points to the central theme of the show, as the country loses its President and his wife is accused of killing him. She is deemed guilty even before an investigation and must uncover the truth about her husband and the people involved. The series is reviewed as intense and entertaining by critics. Marseille (2016)

Marseille is a compelling French drama series created by Dan Franck. It is the first French-language original production for Netflix which was released in 2016. There are two seasons of the show and the story revolves around the longtime mayor of Marseille who is preparing to hand over the reins to his protégé when a sudden and ruthless battle erupts for control of the city.

After being mayor of Marseille for 25 years, Robert Taro was about to leave the world of politics but on seeing the wrong dealings happening in his cabinet, he enters into a war of succession with his former protégé turned rival Lucas Barres. It is the struggle of power between an experienced master politician and his young protégé (who learnt everything from him) in this sweeping tale of corruption and revenge.

Borgen (2010)

Borgen is the acclaimed Danish political drama that was first aired in 2010 with its third season ending in 2013. The fourth season was reprised by Netflix and released as a standalone series with the added ‘Power and Glory’ in the original title. The series is created by Adam Price along with Jeppe Gjervig Gram and Tobias Lindholm.

The initial three seasons follow the story of Danish politician Birgitte Nyborg who became Denmark’s first female leader and the struggles she faces while climbing up the political ladder. However, various setbacks demoted her to a businesswoman and public speaker, before she get back to form a new political party, the New Democrats.

Each season has 10 episodes in total with a runtime of about 56-59 minutes respectively. You can watch the series on Netflix and read our review about its latest season here.
