Not all relationships have great starts, and Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie Episode 11 is a very cute example of that. Let’s see how it all began between Izumi and Shikimori in this review!
Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie Episode 11 Overview

Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie, or Kawaii Dake Ja Nai Shikimori-san in original Japanese is a comedy, romance, and slice-of-life anime based on a manga written by Keigo Maki and serialized in Magazine Pocket. It is being brought to the medium of anime by Studio Doga Kobo, whose previous shows have included similar themes and appealed to a similar demographic as Shikimori-san. Plastic Memories and Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun are a part of Doga Kobo’s catalogue.

Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie Episode 11 Review- The Origin Of Shikimori

Some anime have weird titles, translated or otherwise. The most popular anime of this age is Attack on Titan, and it has perhaps the least correct name of any anime. This anime falls into the same category, or at least it looks like it did. Nothing in the show suggested the themes that the title seemingly represented. The titular character wanted to be considered cute, while the title suggests something in the exact opposite direction. However, we finally have some answers to why that is in the latest episode.

We went way far back in time in this episode when Shikimori and Izumi were very young and didn’t even know each other. Let’s talk about Izumi first since this one should be over quicker. He is a depressing character for many reasons, including his luck and his refusal to let anyone else suffer in his stead. He braves it all because he is just kind like that, even though what is happening to him is astonishingly unfair. He is kind like that, and this is what gives him his sweet personality, which is worthy of being loved by someone like Shikimori.

Speaking of Shikimori, a lot of Shikimori Episode 11 focused on the relationship between her and her brother. The bond that siblings can share is an incredibly strong one, even though it may come across as incredibly petty and vindictive. It is hard to portray in any media, especially if the writer doesn’t have siblings of their own. However, that’s not the case here, as the Shikimori siblings work very well together and seem to share that unexplainable bond. Their interactions are always fun and were a highlight of this episode.

Shikimori’s origin also made a lot of sense. Her being involved with a lot of what people around her did without focusing on her own needs is a fine motivation to be the exact opposite of that once you realize you have agency. It also served as an explanation of why Shikimori is so good at everything, but that one wasn’t as important. It was also a reminder that if adopting traditional feminine (or masculine, no judgements here) mannerisms helps you feel more comfortable in your own skin, by all means, go ahead.

Izumi and Shikimori were truly made for each other, and every time they interact, this fact becomes more and more apparent. In Izumi, Shikimori gets a relentlessly positive guy who stays that kind and sweet even after life throws everything but the kitchen sink at him. In Shikimori, Izumi gets someone who cares for him enough to always worry about his bad luck and helps him out whenever he requires it. Shikimori Episode 11 was a very positive episode that featured some great animation and soundtrack alongside giving you the feels that will be with you throughout the day.
Verdict
Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie Episode 11 was another great episode that featured a lot of heart-to-heart conversations and a look back at our protagonists’ pasts. A great penultimate episode, for sure.
