Bidding farewell to your favourite characters and series is never easy, and watching the Sex Education Season 4 trailer is making things even harder for us! Coming back for one final ride, the young adult Netflix series that started an open and healthy conversation around the titular subject introduced us to a loving star-studded cast including the likes of Asa Butterfield as Otis, Emma Mackey as Maeve, Ncuti Gatwa as Eric, Connor Swindells as Adam, Aimee Lou Wood as Aimee, Gillian Anderson as Dr Jean Milburn aka the sex therapist we all need but never knew about, and others.
The much-awaited fourth instalment of the much-loved teen drama series is coming back bolder and more emotional than ever, and for all the right reasons as always. It’s shows like this one that remind us that making a statement is never enough until and unless the characters making them are undergoing humane and relatable growth as well. And so have we all grown with them on this journey. The attractive cast of the show has hit our small screens ahead of the season premiere this month itself to remind us that “Goodbyes are the worst”.

Created by Laurie Nunn, the series’ bittersweet finale trailer released on September 12, 2023, and it’s loaded with feels all around. As we’d left things off in the dysfunctional and cliff-hanging final episode of Season 3, our former Moordale students will be returning to school after all, but not their ex safe haven, rather the high-tech Cavendish Sixth Form College. As opposed to their old closed-off environment at Moordale where they had to kick off sex-ed sessions in the dilapidated abandoned bathroom stall, here they can thrive openly in a queer-friendly atmosphere.
A new paradise also calls for introduction to new comrades, or rivals, as in the case of coming in of a brand new sex therapist, rivalling Otis’ long-affirmed glory at Moordale. We also have a new popular crowd walking the halls of Cavendish. But what good would the series be without its old fan-favourites. So to lay our anxieties to rest, Otis’ sex therapist mom, played by Gillian Anderson, comes back into picture while highlighting upon her fresh family complications, now that Jakob no longer seems to be in the picture after the family-shattering revelation came to light that he’s not the father of Dr Milburn’s newborn baby.
Coming back to the big love story that we’ve all waited for to happen since Season 1, Maeve and Otis may have finally found their way to each other at the end of the previous season, but new circumstances again put some distance between the two as Maeve had to move to America for her studies. Regardless of that derailed train of thought, it seems that she and Otis are still hanging on to their ever-charming “You waited / Of Course” scenario, because frankly speaking we will also keep waiting for these two to find each other after everything that is yet to come in their way till they make the long distance relationship work this season, or not.

Other than that, Alistair Petrie is also back as Adam’s strict dad, now on a journey of redemption, much like Connor Swindells’ Adam who’s got to learn how to love himself before anything else. Completing the family triangle, Samantha Spiro, Adam’s mother aka Maureen Groff will also be joining them.
Newcomers this season include Dan Levy as Thomas Molloy, Maeve’s American writing instructor and Lisa McGrillis as Joanna aka Jean’s younger sister.
