Twice’s Set Me Free Music Video Teaser just dropped, giving us a closer look at the upcoming album’s concept. The song will serve as the title track for the group’s twelfth extended play, Ready To Be.
The eighteen-second-long music video teaser opens with the members joining a synchronized group dance. Then it showcases individual group members in various locations and scenes where each of them is engaged in tasks. Certain members are shown inside traps that they are trying to break free from. Meanwhile, another member is trying to escape from the walls closing in.
The main chorus of the song can be heard playing in the background. The peppy beats, along with the melodic tune, are bound to get engrained inside everyone’s minds. In the last clip, group member Jihyo sings the main lyrics, ‘Set Me Free’, where she depicts biting off cuffs from her hands.
These few segments and clips metaphorically represent the stereotypes and the expectations that society holds upon them. As idols, they maintain a perfect image at all times, which can be exhausting. The song talks about seeking freedom from such norms and rules that people have put upon them. A feministic approach and views can be seen to have heavily influenced the song’s concept.
In the previous music video trailer, the group members appeared in all-white clothing, sitting in front of a mirror. They were wiping off their makeup and showing their true selves, which speaks volumes about today’s unrealistic beauty standards. So far, themes of women empowerment are being indicated through the teasers.
The popular K-pop girl group is composed of nine members: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. The group was formed by JYP Entertainment, and they officially debuted on October 20, 2015, with the album The Story Begins. After appearing in the music competitive show Sixteen (2015), they were signed under the management.

The upcoming album, along with the music video, is set to premiere on March 10, 2 PM EST. As part of the promotional activities, the group will be appearing on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, on March 9, 2023, where they will perform the title track, Set Me Free, for the first time.
