Scam 2003 The Telgi Story Trailer: India’s Biggest Stamp Paper Scam Retold With Gagan Dev Riar as Abdul Karim Telgi

Weeks after the first teaser video for the upcoming Hindi financial thriller series was released, the Scam 2003 The Telgi Story trailer has been unveiled by SonyLIV on August 22, 2023. Now expanding further, having previously unfolded the mystery-ridden case of the infamous Harshad Mehta Story in Scam 1992, the franchise’s next follow-up chapter has been helmed by the Scoop director Hansal Mehta and directed by Tushar Hiranandani. Starring Gagan Dev Riar as the titular convicted Indian counterfeiter, Abdul Karim Telgi, the web series is all set to drive our racing attention to this matter of the past from an all new perspective.

Unleashing the untold truths of the case as recorded in the Hindi book Reporter Ki Diary by journalist and news reporter Sanjay Singh, the series has been produced by Applause entertainment in association with Studio NEXT. The same Scam theme composed by Achint Thakkar takes centre stage again in the new instalment’s trailer, pointing towards the same zestful drive that made the former outing a major hit.

Still from the trailer.

The second season of the show introduces us to the talents of Dev Riar as Telgi, the man behind the biggest stamp paper scam of India. Several character voiceovers describe his personality as “khota sikka” (literally translates to counterfeit coin) or a “snake”, but even as someone who’s “smart” and is willing to take all risks necessary.

The forthcoming series is bound to remind audiences of the recent 2023 Prime Video India release Farzi starring Shahid Kapoor and Vijay Sethupathi as the focus is again on making profits by any means necessary. Delving deep into the scam, worth of Rs 30,000 crores, that shook the entire nation, the biographical series has been written by Karan Vyas and Kiran Yadnyopavit for the OTT screen, and it will also star Bhavna Balsavar, Bharat Jadhav, Mukesh Tiwari, Sana Amin Sheikh and others.

Dev Riar claims to fully understand the language of profit as he steps into Karim Telgi’s shoes for his new avatar. The show is not only likely to explore the shocking story behind the 2003 case in focus, but also capture the counterfeiter’s fall from the high pedestal. The official trailer is a moving reminder for the old viewers of the series and new explorers alike to tune into the Scam 2003 SonyLIV title releasing in the first week of September.
