Romantic Movies To Watch in the Monsoon

Wake Up Sid

Perhaps one of the best coming-of-age stories Indian cinema has put out. This film has all the vibes and all the appropriate cliches that make it a brilliant romance film. Mumbai becomes a character on its own here, and the way the characters see this city is one of the major reasons why the movie works out so well. Additionally, the kind of justice this film did to the friends-to-lovers trope is just the superficial reason why this film is brilliant. You can tuck yourself in and feel like an emotional range has opened up within you.

Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Konkana Sen Sharma, Anupam Kher and others, Wake Up Sid is available to stream on Netflix.

Set It Up

Forced Proximity is a trope that generally has something off most of the time, but this film executed every major necessity in a romantic film correctly. The vibes in this movie are immaculate, and need I remind you? “You’re not hard to get at all, you’re hard to earn, and that’s so much better.” If a romance movie can have this dialogue, there is no reason not to watch this. Cue all the swoons. The cast is immaculate, the writing is amazing, and the pay-off is perfectly timed, so one has to watch it.

Starring Zoey Deutch, Glen Powell, Lucy Liu and others, Set It Up is currently streaming on Netflix.

La La Land

If visuals are your thing, this film is perfect. Additionally, it is the perfect mixture of pleasure and pain. We start off seeing these two characters absolutely hate each other but eventually come together because of music. Additionally, the dancing and the music were so entrancing that there is no way one is dragging their eyes away from the screen. It must be said that the ending is the reason most people will sign off on the film is a visual masterpiece. So stick around and stay for the vibes in the city of stars.

Starring Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, JK Simmons, and others, La La Land is currently streaming on Netflix.

27 Dresses

This is the peak rom-com trope time because all the cliches come together here. There is some unrequited love, and there is some unknown pining, and mostly there is the big moment where everything comes together. The premise is fantastic, and the vibes are also immaculate. However, the thing that really makes this the perfect monsoon film is the way they are stuck in the rain. Obviously, the rain is such a brilliant element in any romantic film, so just for this reason, one must watch this film.

Starring Katherine Heigl, James Marsden, Malin Åkerman and others, 27 Dresses is available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.

Dil Dhadakne Do

There are not enough Hindi films like this, where the characters are so unlikable, but we cannot help but root for them. Obviously, centring a family drama while having romance on the branches worked amazingly well for them because that itself becomes such a good resistant force. It drives the plot forward so well. Additionally, when there are men written by women, it is almost impossible to resist watching film. Even though the comedy takes the cake, the drama is so brilliant it works anyways.

Starring Priyanka Chopra, Shefali Shah, Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and others, Dil Dhadakne Do is currently streaming on Netflix.

Begin Again

Music is the centre of this film, but the way the platonic relationship becomes perfectly ripe in this movie is the reason why this film works. The acting is amazing, and the writing is also fantastic. But the idea of living in the city alone, making your name with people who barely know and killing your ex with kindness is so cool that one has to watch this film. This movie gives viewers the opportunity to romanticise their life like never before.

Starring Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Hailee Steinfeld and others, Begin Again is currently available to rent on iTunes.

Me Before You

This is perhaps one of those examples where we can say that the movie was better than the books because, first of all, the chemistry is crazy between the two characters. Secondly, the visual and the small details that would make a book brilliant is also what made the movie so amazing to watch. We are given the opportunity to fall in love with the characters just as we would be falling in love with a person. There are such meaningful conversations that the end feels even more tragic than it is.

Starring Emilia Clarke, Sam Claflin, Jenna Coleman and others, Me Before You is currently available to rent on iTunes.

13 Going on 30

This film takes us right back. Even though it has the oddest premise, the message behind it makes so much sense at the moment that all those doubts fly right out of the window. The wonderment and the innocence become the whole reason why their relationship becomes as wonderful as it is in the beginning. Additionally, the casting for each of the characters was done so well, it gives the Euphoria casting director a run for their money. The cultural moments in this film make it timeless.

Starring Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, Judy Greer and others, 13 Going on 30 is currently available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.

Jab We Met

This has got to be one of the best rom-coms India has ever produced because the characters are immaculate, the writing is amazing, and the humour is so good that it becomes a staple in any list. There are moments of pomp and celebration, but there are moments of such desolation and sadness that the range really shows the expertise the directors and writers have in showing the film. Additionally, the dancing in the rain part with the best playlist has got to make this movie go on top of anyone’s list (ironic, I know).

Starring Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Tarun Arora and others, Jab We Met is currently streaming on JioCinema and Amazon Prime Video.
