Revelations Ending Explained
The film opens with Yang-rae following a young girl to a church. Pastor Min-chan spots the new member during the sermon and catches him just as he is about to leave, imploring him to join the church. He isn’t interested and eventually leaves without paying any heed to the registration form, although Min-chan is left with his picture. However, before leaving, Min-chan does notice the ankle monitor on Yang-rae.
The focus shifts to Min-chan, who just learns that his wife is cheating on him. He is, of course, heartbroken, but keeps it within himself for the time being. When he learns that his mentor is in charge of opening up a bigger church near his own, he is hopeful that he will get the position of Pastor in charge. Unfortunately, more bad news follows when he goes to meet his mentor and it becomes clear that the position will be handed over to the pastor’s son. With nothing going his way, he comes back to church, only for his wife to call him in tears telling him that their son was picked up by some man because he forgot to pick him up.

Frantic, he is sure that it’s Yang-rae who has kidnapped him and, with his address in hand, he rushes to find him. After stalking him outside the house and seeing him pack a shovel in his car, he calls the cops and then follows him when his phone battery dies. On edge, he follows him to pass where the two of them have a scuffle and Min-chan accidentally injures Yang-rae. Desperate and panicked, he pushes him off the ledge after seeing an image of Jesus Christ on the far mountain.
We then meet Detective Yeon-hui who has just joined the Violent Crimes Unit. She’s reeling from the death of her sister, who was one of Yang-rae’s victims and stalks him throughout the neighbourhood. Yeon-hui is unable to get over the death of her sister and feels responsible for it, having not been able to catch Yang-rae in time and neither being able to deliver justice. Her sister committing suicide was, however, the biggest heartbreak for her.

With Yang-rae now missing, Yeon-hui is called into the station to figure out the disappearance of a young girl — the same girl Yang-rae was stalking at the beginning of the movie. Yeon-hui assumes the worst and her trauma resurfaces. She goes to question Min-chan because of his emergency call the previous night and there she notices his muddy shoes and some inconsistencies and shifty behaviour. However, with nothing else to go on, they leave and soon find Yang-rae’s car at the pass. Police start to investigate but are unable to find him or the girl.
Elsewhere, Min-chan drops his wife off at a retirement centre and is shocked to find Yang-rae there, still alive. He abducts him without anyone noticing thanks to the bad infrastructure of the building, and tortures him at an abandoned building, still seeing signs that God wants him to get revenge. He is also absolutely certain that the young girl is dead, which fuels his fire even more. Meanwhile, Yeon-hui constantly finds Min-chan and his church in respect to Yang-rae and decides to dig further into the matter. She stumbled upon Yang-rae through one such clue but before she could do anything, Min-chan hit her over the head.

Now also tied up, she implores him to let Yang-rae go in order to save the A-yeong but Min-chan refuses to see reason. He is convinced that she is dead and that this is God’s will. As a scuffle soon ensues, Yang-rae falls to his death from the building but not before telling her about the one-eyed monster. Min-chan is arrested eventually and Yeon-hui feels even more guilty about the entire ordeal. Talking to the psychiatrist on the case, he learns more about Yang-rae’s past and about Min-chan’s mental state and that he’s suffering from apophenia. She further shares about her own mental state and the psychiatrist gives her some clarity about her feelings.
After a small conversation with her father about one-eyed windows, she realises what Yang-rae had meant just before his death. She rushes to a redevelopment area and finds A-yeong tied in the basement with a one-eyed window. Later, she goes to meet Min-chan, revealing to him that A-yeong was alive all along and asking him who told him that she was dead. The last scene showcases a sobbing Min-chan wiping off a drawing of Jesus Christ from the wall, implying that he has realised that everything that he had thought was God’s sign was a lie.
