Raat Akeli Hai – The Bansal Murders Ending Explained
Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders starts with Jatil Yadav investigating the murder of almost every member of the rich and famous Bansal family. From the initial investigation, it seems like a simple story – drug addict younger son Aarav Bansal must’ve been the killer as Meera Bansal saw him rushing towards her and then slicing up security guard Om Prakash, who seemingly came to her rescue. However, Yadav is immediately suspicious, realising that, with a crazed murderer on the loose, the lack of struggle in every individual crime scene is very suspicious.

Helping him is forensic analyst Rosie Panicker, whose investigation leads to the revelation that everyone in the family was drugged except Om Prakash, Meera and Seema, who was lactose intolerant. Confused about why that is, Jatil immediately suspects Meera, but the doubts go nowhere at first. Digging deeper, he finds something curious about Meera’s son, Arjun’s death a few years ago. He seemingly died of pneumonia, but the symptoms don’t quite match, nor does the speed at which the illness killed him.
Who was the real culprit?

In a surprising twist, the real culprit turns out to be Om Prakash, the security guard. He was the one who plotted this entire thing and drugged everyone’s dessert that night and then proceeded to murder everyone. However, when Aarav saw him killing his parents, he tried to stop him by attacking him with his own murder weapon, the machete, which is what Meera saw. In the scuffle, Om Prakash was brutally attacked, and he, in turn, pushed Aarav from the second floor. The situation turned in his favour as everyone thought that he was injured while trying to save Meera.
What was the reason for the murders?

Through his investigations, Jatil connected the dots of Arjun’s death with those of the local slum children’s deaths. A thorough investigation with Nishal Pal’s help reveals that a few years ago, all the children, including Arjun, died or were injured due to a gas leak from the nearby rubber plant that seeped into the local school. Meera and Arjun were there for the Republic Day celebrations, as a result of which so many children were affected, including Om Prakash’s daughter.
The young child died, and justice was never delivered as the situation was kept under wraps, thanks to Meera and her newspaper. Thus, Om Prakash wanted revenge against the family, considering the plant was owned by the Bansal family secretively through shell companies.
Is Jatil able to deliver justice?

Jatil records Om Prakash’s confession, going against DGP Rajeev Verma’s strict orders, and leaks it to the press. As a result, the truth is out in the open, and the real culprits get punished, but Jatil is suspended for insubordination.
What happens in the end?

In the end, we learn that Meera had stopped all acquisitions on the night of the murders and that the factory belongs to Guru Maa, not her. So nothing can ever happen to her. It showcases how the rich and powerful don’t fear the consequences of their actions, and it’s only for the poor to face consequences for the smallest of mistakes. The film’s ending highlights the atrocities that the poor face from the justice system and will leave viewers feeling thoroughly heartbroken.
