Why is “PJM2 is Coming” Trending? Is a BTS’ Jimin and Ryan Tedder Collaboration on the Table?

Every day in “Bora-land” makes for a series of news flashes, and in the latest turning of tables, the BTS ARMYs have started trending “PJM2 is Coming” on X (formerly Twitter), referring to the grand possibility of Park Jimin’s solo music comeback. In terms of solo debuts and promotions, 2023 has proved to be a momentous year for the “BTS Chapter 2” phase, allowing each of the members to flourish and create a magnum opus they can their own.

Raising the bar of expectations and musical standards in general, BTS members broke through restrictive labels this year to consolidate their magnificent presence as some of the biggest pop icons of the 21st century. BTS Jimin released his debut solo album, titled FACE, on March 24, 2023, with its musical themes centred around the fusion of pop, hip-hop and R&B. However, even well after wrapping up his solo promotions to open the door for his fellow mates – V and Jungkook – to release their music, not once has Jimin left the headlines.

On November 7, 2023, the megastar further fed fuel to the flames (even despite staying out of sight), originally fanned by his bandmate and leader of BTS, RM, who’d openly revealed that Jimin was working on “something really big” on the younger member’s birthday, i.e. October 13, during a Weverse live broadcast. What this project entailed had stayed out of the public purview, until American singer and record producer, Ryan Tedder, also the frontman of the pop rock band OneRepublic, left a response that incited the fire even more.

This all began on November 5, when a fan thanked Tedder for helping write Blink-182’s song Fell in Love for their 9th studio album, One More Time…, that released on October 20, 2023. In response to that tweet, the singer further quoted it and replied back with five red heart emojis, that in turn met with a thread of responses, one more significant than others. One of the BTS ARMYs, took to their X profile and left a comment asking, “Hey Ryan can I tempt you to write a song with Jimin of BTS… would absolutely love the vision”.

Pulling the rug underneath the fans’ feet, Tedder responded with a big fat sign of approval, with the word now being spread like wildfire on the social media platform. His reply stated, “Already did 😉 just finished recording it”.

It has been a wild rollercoaster ride for the fans of BTS. If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that this future Jimin and Ryan Tedder collaboration is going to set an elite example. As is already known, Tedder’s songwriting credits outside of OneRepublic’s discography extend to Beyonce’s Halo, Adele’s Rumour Has It, Maroon 5’s Love Somebody, Maps, Ellie Goulding’s Burn, One Direction’s Right Now, Demi Lovato’s Wildfire, Taylor Swift’s I Know Places, Welcome to New York, Hailee Steinfeld’s Most Girls, 5 Seconds of Summer’s Teeth, Easier, and many more popular hits.

Ryan Tedder’s Latest Collaboration With Blink-182

While it’s not clear as to what the two artists are brewing together – an album, a single – it could be anything. To follow what Jimin once said during the “Special Talk With Jimin” event following the release of his exclusive documentary titled Jimin’s Production Diary, “If I say work, you would assume that I’m doing something, but I’ll leave that to your imagination”. So, of course the BTS ARMYs’ imagination is running wild as we speak.

As far as the collaboration news is concerned, it’s almost like it has been confirmed, even if unofficially as of yet, considering that Tedder even shared an Instagram story tagging South Korean producer PDOGG, who’s worked widely with BTS and is a prime crew member of Big Hit Music under HYBE Labels. In the same story, he also tagged the Big Hit Music founder, Bang Si-Hyuk, well known as “Hitman” Bang, alluding to the image of them being in the studio together.
