Phantom Lawyer Episode 1 Recap
This episode opens with the origin of a talented lawyer, Yi-rang, who can see ghosts. Then we get some background information about him and understand how he became able to interact with spirits in the first place. Apparently, when he first started, he did not see much success as he readily got rejected by every employer. Later, we get to know the reason behind it. Most likely, Yi-rang’s father made a grave mistake or got framed earlier, and his son is getting unfairly treated because of it.
Rejected again, Yi-rang becomes too drunk one night and openly challenges fate. He then decides to open his own law firm and search for a building that would be fitting for him to inaugurate his new office. The building that he gets is an old one, and the floor also comes with a unique design. The broker hides some grave secret about the apartment as he tries to sell it to Yi-rang as soon as possible.

After settling down, Yi-rang finds a unique incense in his drawer. He lights it up and falls asleep after smelling it. But when he wakes up, he sees a spirit and gets extremely scared. After this, he realises that the place he has hired used to be a shaman’s abode. The situation becomes weird after Yi-rang realises that he’s the only one who can see this ghost, and no one believes his side of the story.
The ghost takes possession of Yi-rang’s body and later even asks Yi-rang to find out about him, as he has no idea about his own origin. After this, Yi-rang goes to consult with the father of a church, who also recommends helping the ghost so that he can pass without any regrets. Following this, Yi-rang also meets with a woman who was the last client of the shaman whose place Yi-rang is using now. He finally manages to find the whereabouts of the ghost, who had haunted him. His name is Gang-pung, and his wife is the one whom Yi-rang met.

Yi-rang also gets to know that the ghost died unlawfully and decides to punish the doctor for it by winning his case along with his wife. Yi-rang, with the help of his ghost friend, builds a strong case and finally stands on trial. He plans to take the case free of cost, as he feels bad for Gang-pung and his family.
However, against him, Na-hyeon fights, who is herself a very established lawyer. At the trial, it becomes apparent that Yi-rang was losing the case in the beginning. However, everything changes when Gang-pung possesses him again. This is where the first episode ended on a comic note.

Phantom Lawyer Episode 1 Review
This was a decent enough episode where we got to see what we can expect from the series in the future. It will most likely mix comedy and drama, crafting a fun and engaging watch experience. Apart from that, the acting of the actors stands out nicely.
