Perfect Match (Ep 1-4) Review: The Necking Has Gone Too Far

Perfect Match is a dating reality TV series hosted by Nick Lachey and stars contestants from all of Netflix’s reality TV shows like Love Is Blind, The Ultimatum, Too Hot To Handle, The Mole, Selling Tampa, The Circle, Twentysomethings: Austin, and Sexy Beasts.

Netflix’s description of the series reads:

Couples who prove their compatibility gain the power to make or break other matches in this strategic and seductive dating competition.

– Perfect Match Review Does Not Contain Spoilers –

The way Nick Lachey opens Perfect Match, you’d be lost on whether or not he is being serious or if this is some sort of ironic joke. Because Netflix OBVIOUSLY chose him to find eligible bachelors from its different reality shows to find another shot at love cannot be said without humour, right? RIGHT?!

Joke or not, I think Netflix needs to stop it trying to hook people up using different shows in order to get more views. I don’t know how it’s working out for them, but man Perfect Match is really not a great idea for my sanity. The show really found the worst people from all of its other shows to throw in here for a truly awful time.

Of course, I don’t have any interesting discussions to hold up here. These people aren’t here for deep discussions or anything remotely smart. The moment they meet each other, they immediately match up and start making out because they are so into each other. It also helps, maybe, that they all mostly know each other a bit in that most of them have slept with the others. So, you know.

Anyway, since we are not stopping people from boning each other here, Perfect Match gives us some saucy drama peppered into the cringiness. And it’s interesting how everyone is coming on the show in hopes of “finding their perfect match” when you know this is a load of crap.

Francesca Farago is very much vocal about her relationship with TikTok star Jesse Sullivan and sure, they might have gotten together after the filming of the show, but it does make watching this rather silly now. It’s things like these that make it such a bad experience, although the contestants’ current relationship status is not even the biggest problem here.

Guys who are following the chalices in these stupid shows would be happy (or not) to know that we get ugly white ones this time instead of ugly gold ones (the famous ones from Love is Blind). That should tell you what this show is – the same crap in a different package.

There’s an odd challenge in episode 2 where “the challenge” is to kiss everyone and rate their kisses, but you are blindfolded and wearing headphones. Obviously, you rate the kiss anonymously until it is lengthily discussed by Nick Lachey later. The entirety of this challenge is extremely uncomfortable to watch and is rather awkward. After the first one or two tongue actions, you are left feeling rather disgusted with everything, and, in spite of the ‘hot’ songs playing in the background, it just doesn’t feel hot or portray any sort of emotion to the screen.

You feel very well that this is all made-up crap and that nothing about this feels real. That’s what the problem is that these dating shows and Perfect Match is no exception. It feels tactless and without any class. You don’t feel the goosebumps of love or the rush of emotions when you see two people realising their feelings for each other. It just feels desperate and cringy, especially when they just start to push their tongues down each other’s throats as a challenge. I don’t get the appeal of this.

Summing Up: Perfect Match

Ask me whether I really care about any of these couples – I don’t because this is absolutely nothing interesting about these people. Most can’t think for themselves and just say the most random stuff at the most inopportune moments. But then again, I refuse to believe that anyone is being their true selves here, and it’s just another show for these contestants to come to the limelight.

Perfect Match is streaming on Netflix.
