Why Did Comala Turn Into a Ghost Town?
With Pedro’s rise to power, he took over the town which soon began to crumble under his rule. With heavy corruption, adultery, rape, murder, and other havoc caused by him and his people, the town began to fall. Upon this, he also funded and manipulated the Mexican Revolution for his benefit which added to the chaos. Finally, the death of the only woman he loved broke the straw as he began to show indifference towards the town, which ended in all the residents either leaving or dying.

How Did Pedro Páramo Die?
Saddened by the death of his one true love, Pedro began showing indifference towards Comala. Adding on to this, Comala gathered a lot of people from neighbouring towns when the priest rang the bells of the church. This gathering soon turned into a celebration which coincided with Pedro’s grief for his lover. Angered by this, Pedro began to neglect the town which caused its downfall.
He began to spend his time as a soulless person who would sit in front of his house looking in the direction where his lover left for her final journey. One day, as he sat in his wick chair gazing in the same direction, one of his illegitimate sons showed up at his door drunk. He begs Pedro to help him bury his dead wife but Pedro’s indifference angers him. He then stabs Pedro and Damiana (who tried to stop him). With this, his story comes to an end.
This is the same son who shows Juan the way to Comala when he arrives.
