Oshi No Ko Episode 11 Review- Idol

One of the better things about this episode was that it didn’t waste any more time preparing for the performance and went directly into it. We saw the new iteration of B-Komachi perform, and people predictably reacted to them. The show even introduced a new minor character who was a fan of the original B-Komachi, which was a very smart writing decision. If the groups are going to be compared against each other anyways, do it with the eyes of someone who only knew the original and still ends up feeling positive about the new group.

Kana also got plenty of time to shine in this episode, and she has pretty clearly established herself as the primary love interest for Aqua. As with all things he has ever loved, she now runs a risk of dying a horrifying death, but that should be a while later. She had to overcome her anxiety of being overshadowed once again, but once again, Aqua was there for her and helped her through everything in an unexpected manner. The return of the B-Komachi dance was also super cute and one of the biggest highlights of the Oshi no Ko Finale.

There is the magic word- Finale. This really was the final episode of the show until we get the inevitable Oshi no Ko Season 2, and I have to say that this wasn’t exactly how I was expecting this season to go or end when I was done watching the first episode. Is it unrealistic to expect the same bombastic quality and plot twists for an entire season? Yes, almost certainly so. Does the same apply to the show’s tone and general dedication to the main plot? Probably not, and therein lies the issue.

This was a perfectly fine episode to serve as a drop-off point for a while, as it resolved a particular plot point, served as the conclusion to an arc, and set up an exciting new storyline for the next season to start off with. However, it also featured the official establishment of a love triangle, a rivalry storyline between Kana and Akane, and almost zero thought given to the original storyline of the show save for a few hamfisted lines of dialogue in the end- the murder of Ai.

So there we have it, the show comes to an end. While it wasn’t able to reach the lofty heights of the first episode again, it remained one of the most anticipated shows of this season and continued to tell a very fast-paced and mostly interesting and engaging story while introducing and balancing a ton of characters. The final episode perfectly comprised what the show was about- indulging in pop culture while remaining a stark criticism of it, even though it sometimes indulged in it for longer than it had to. Season 2 absolutely can’t come any faster.
Verdict
Oshi No Ko Episode 11 was a highly entertaining final episode that set up the next season very well and featured some great character work. A fine ending!
