No One Will Save You Review

No One Will Save You does something most films and series do not offer in this era. It removes the bulky, cheesy dialogues that scriptwriters keep feeding us in the name of horror, and focuses on making sure it creates an environment with the cinematography and sound that swallows us in. It gives the actor the freedom to lead with expression and lets our imagination go wild during your moments of suspense and cliffhanger.

The film revolves around Dever’s Brynn Adams. This young, isolated girl in town is seemingly an outcast. She spends her days all by herself- cooking, dancing, selling dresses. It is an idyllic life that has come to this point due to certain life-changing events surrounding death, grief and guilt. However, Brynn seems almost fine to be the town outcast. Until she no longer finds herself alone.

No One Will Save You wastes no time to introduce us to the disturbance that turns Brynn’s life upside down. One night she is awakened by some uncanny things. Initially, she cannot figure out the nature of the home invasion that has graced her place but, soon enough we realize that what haunts Brynn’s house and the town ultimately are extraterrestrial creatures.

This canon event puts Brynn on the map to strive for her survival and freedom as these space beings continue to make their chaotic presence felt throughout the town. Brynn is left with minimal resources to rely on as she tackles these beings.

Being a rather short film, No One Will Save You engages you in no time. By the time the first hour is over, much has happened that leaves you rooting for the main character and wondering what will happen next. Nonetheless, the brilliance of the first hour is met with a lacklustre second half that seems predictable and obvious. That is not to say that the second half isn’t enjoyable; it just becomes a little convoluted and unrealistically action-packed by the end.

But whatever the film treats us with, it is Kaitlyn Dever who is unmissable. It helps that she is the only character we get to focus on which aids the allegory of grief and guilt that has made her who she is. But Dever also has a remarkable grasp on her expressions and the delivery of each scene with a kind of proficiency that reminds you of how excellent she was in Netflix’s Unbelievable. You root for Dever, not only because she is the protagonist, but also due to her capacity as an actor to keep you hooked with only one dialogue in the 93 minutes of runtime.
