Netflix Cancels Lockwood and Co; Fans Feel Betrayed, Want Any Other Network to Pick the Show

In another ridiculous Netflix cancellation news, the acclaimed and popular series Lockwood and Co will not be coming back for a second season. This is quite surprising given that the series had done extremely well on the streaming platform, staying No 1 on the chart and claiming a spot in the top 10 across 80 countries. The fantasy series stars Ruby Stokes, Cameron Chapman, Ali Hadji-Heshmati and Ivanno Jeremiah, alongside other cast members. Based on Jonathan Stroud’s popular books, this show is created by Joe Cornish.

The streaming platform has had a love-hate relationship with teenage and young adult shows, with cancellations from The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself and Teenage Bounty Hunters. Additionally, the Warrior Nun announcement evaporated any hope audiences may have had with the streaming platform. Given how many people enjoyed this series, this announcement is just salt in the wound. While it features pretty normal cliches following an unlikely trio and their adventures, we were also allowed to peek behind the curtain and see beyond the fantasy.

Additionally, the show has done well on all fronts, gaining a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans are incredibly confused that something like that happened in the first place. Some fans have taken to tagging other streaming platforms in order to have this series picked up by them. Others have also taken to comment how the actors have made so many efforts in order to play this character and will be separated from this franchise completely. Others have also taken to comment on the fact that Stranger Things and this show have the same ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Eras Tour has also taken over the Twitterverse because fans have taken to referencing Taylor Swift in their tweets, given how harrowing her lyrics can be. People have also created petitions online and shared them with the rest of the internet so people can sign up and get someone to notice that people are actually excited to see this show. A similar kind of rally had risen when the series Lucifer had been cancelled by Fox in 2018. However, at the time, Netflix had been hailed as the lord and saviour because fan persuasion had brought the series back.

Lockwood and Co Cancellation Announcement

It is hardly the case that a show is brought back after Netflix cancels it. However, the popular sitcom One Day at a Time died three deaths, once when Netflix cancelled it, then when PopTV cancelled it after half a season because of COVID and finally when the pandemic didn’t do much for the series. It is hardly possible that Lockwood and Co would come back in any form to another streaming platform, but if it does, then it would set a groundbreaking precedent for what shows can really be cancelled.

Fantasy fiction fans are facing yet another hurdle on Netflix, with Shadow and Bone, which hasn’t been cancelled yet, but the lack of news from the cast and the crew has been telling. While they did stray from the original source material, the story was given enough meat on the bones. While this is still a hanging sword, the news for a Six of Crows spin-off is another wall that fans keep bumping up against. Creators of the original series have shared that the scripts for the spin-off are ready. It is only time when a streaming platform picks it up.

To see exactly what fans are feeling about this cancellation and the impending general loss for Netflix, we have compiled some popular reactions from the viewers below.
