Netflix’s Arlo the Alligator Boy Review: An Old Tale in a New Wrapper

Let me ask you, who doesn’t love cartoons? I absolutely and absolutely love them. I spent my whole childhood watching Oswald, Tom & Jerry, Noddy and many more. The list goes on. Arlo the Alligator Boy is another cartoon movie but with a twist. It is a musical cartoon movie that is streaming on Netflix.

Arlo the Alligator Boy is directed by Ryan Crego. The story revolves around a red-headed green coloured alligator boy, as the name suggests, whose name is Arlo. In the movie, you can see a talking tiger, a teeny tiny Italian man, a gigantic girl, a pink hairball and a fish with two legs. Crazy, isn’t it? Well, that’s what cartoons are for. But this movie has a very special message in it.

Arlo the Alligator Boy

The plot opens with a scene where we can see a baby casket and can hear a baby cooing. That baby turns to be the Arlo. He floats from Bellevue hospital to the swamps of Louisiana. There he gets raised by an older banjo-playing Cajun woman Edmee. Edmee has been voiced by Annie Potts. But eventually, he wants to explore the outside world, and gradually he gets to know his real identity and decides to take on a quest to find his father and his true self.

On his journey, he meets a bunch of other characters and becomes a crew who takes the trip with Arlo to New York City to find his father. The movie plot goes back to the old tale where the father does not accept the child and the story unfolds further.

Arlo gets confused and starts to stutter when he has to express his feelings, so he chooses music to communicate. Can you relate to it? Yes, it might seem much like Jagga Jasoos‘s Ranbir Kapoor’s role. And like every other feel-good movie, this one also has its villains. To know what happens in the journey, watch the film.

Arlo the Alligator Boy: Why Should You Watch It?

Well, first, it is an animated cartoon about an alligator. Second, the voice of Arlo is given by American Idol contestant Michael J Woodard in a very jiggly wiggly tone to portray the actual emotion. Third, because the movie will teach you that it’s okay to be weird, so accept yourself first. Fourth, because of the songs. You will really get grooving. And, fifth, the emotions. It will make you smile; it will well up your eyes with tears.

Why you can skip it

Well, because you might feel it is a very old story and a very predictable plot. But, trust me, you will still enjoy it.

Arlo the Alligator Boy

The story’s characters may seem imaginative and straight from the fantasy world, but the plot is based on the grounds of true reality. Every character has their own story to tell, and the director has covered each one of them with gentle care keeping the light-heartedness in a 1 hour 30 minutes film. Arlo the Alligator Boy has been made for the kids, but grown-ups will be able to enjoy it as well.

Arlo the Alligator Boy is now streaming on Netflix.
