Ab Hoga Hisaab Review: Amazon MX Player’s Ab Hoga Hisaab is an intriguing mix of crime, family drama and revenge set against the backdrop of Punjab. Following two brothers torn apart by a dangerous crime gripping the city, the series is a tense and emotional show that showcases the dangers of greed and desperation.
The series tries to balance vengeance with brotherhood, highlighting how far a brother can go for family. But, at every turn, the series loses its way as it focuses more on the drama rather than the crime.

Ab Hoga Hisaab Review
A Strong Premise Buried Beneath Unnecessary Detours
At its core, Ab Hoga Hisaab on Amazon MX Player showcases the destruction left behind by an illegal organ trafficking ring and two brothers getting entangled in it. It highlights the destruction that such a situation leaves behind, along with how rampantly people try to get into Canada illegally, hoping for a better life.
However, despite the series having a ton to deal with surrounding this expansive network and its workings, there’s not a lot of attention given to this plot. Other subplots constantly crowd the show, including Bobby’s relationship with Gazal, which is an unnecessary addition that takes up far too much time to get to the point. The series frequently diverts the tension towards relationship issues and family conflict, leaving the tension somewhere in the back. As a result, when it picks these points back up, viewers will hardly find themselves invested.

The detours don’t add anything to the tension but rather dilute the pacing and the urgency. Moreover, this relationship issue between Gazal and the two brothers is so silly and out of left field that you question the point of adding it at all. It drones on and on without an end in sight, trying to make us care for Bobby’s feelings when all you want to do is get to the point of the show.
The Runtime Becomes the Biggest Villain
At 10 episodes, Ab Hoga Hisaab doesn’t have enough intrigue to keep viewers engaged till the end. The story stretches itself far beyond what the material can sustain, resulting in episodes that are repetitive and meandering. A tighter runtime would’ve resulted in a more tense show where the fat could’ve been trimmed, but alas, we drone on and on about the same thing without making significant headway with the central conflict.

The series insists too hard on the emotional beats that don’t seem to exist, and a forced marriage plan that is far too silly to be taken seriously. The suspense takes a back seat as a result, and the stakes start to feel increasingly distant. It takes too long to give viewers any major revelations, and the long runtime doesn’t help. It’s clear after a few episodes that the series itself has no urgency in getting to the bottom of the organ trafficking plot, coming back to it when everyone has stopped crying about this and that.
Half-Hearted Performances Hurt the Drama
One of the most baffling parts of the series is how laidback everyone is when the series is all about tense confrontations and shocking revelations. Keeping shock and all in the background, every actor in the show seems to be taking it easy while something as dangerous and brutal as organ trafficking is discussed. It’s not convincing to watch the brothers fight or Bobby wearing his heart on his sleeve. It’s also difficult to believe that Sanjay Kapoor and Mouni Roy are bad guys, as they seem to be masquerading as villains instead of being actual bad guys.

The antagonists are so obvious that it takes away half of the tension in the runtime. You don’t fear them as dangerous people, but rather have to remind yourself about their menace.
Too Much Family Drama, Too Little Crime Thriller
One of the pillars of the show is Bobby and Bunty’s brotherhood and their need for revenge. However, trying to balance a crime thriller, a family drama and a romantic melodrama can be a lot, and it oftentimes is unable to focus on them effectively. A lot of the runtime is spent dilly-dallying about romance, which gets on your nerves and takes away from the crime thriller aspects of the story.

The latter half of the series finally gets back to the crime thriller aspect of the show, but it never really picks up steam at that point. There’s more tension surrounding whether or not Bunty will go to Canada rather than whether or not Goldy Sekhon will get what’s coming for him. All of the situations that the brothers get into fight for attention from every sphere, where only one should have been terrifying enough to keep viewers on edge. This imbalance is rather annoying and will make you question the point the show is trying to make.
Final Verdict

There’s not a lot that makes Ab Hoga Hisaab stand out, and the tall tales the characters spew don’t match their actions. The show falls short on every level as the emotions overshadow the tension, and the series becomes a repetitive and meandering mess that makes you question the point of the story. In the end, this one’s supremely confusing with lacklustre performances.
