When fate brings two childhood friends to cross paths and begin a new journey, children content creator Go Eun-ha and mobster-turned-businessman Seo Ji-hwan are set to bring about an exciting rom-com for all. While the two begin healing each other’s hidden wounds, love blooms before the realisation of their deep bond.

Unlike many other disappointing romance comedies, the Kdrama brought about a plot that excites us the moment we come across it and throughout its 16-episode journey. Bringing about an intriguing plot that leaves you laughing and eagerly looking forward to what is to happen next, the drama has shown almost no boring moment.

While the female lead certainly catches our eye in the first few moments(even episodes), the male lead brings out the best in the show. Uhm Tae-goo has fully exhibited his talent in this show and brought out one of his best performances yet. His transformation throughout the show is simply remarkable. Everything from his wardrobe to his hairstyle was simply a reflection of his character and added to his romantic element.

Uhm Tae-goo shines in this show, but Han Sun-hwa isn’t completely overshadowed by his presence. Instead, her presence brings a beautiful harmony as their character complement each other, which could’ve also gone horribly wrong if not portrayed the way they did. Her innocence resonates with the wounded mobster who wishes for the best for those he needs to protect.

Meanwhile, certain clichéd elements also make their way (especially in the case of our second male lead), they can be easily overlooked thanks to everything else going around in the show. Adding on are the interesting side characters who do not fail to make you laugh with their weird and sometimes even over-the-board antics that often bring more trouble to the main leads.

However, the downside of this show would be the incomplete stories of certain characters, including a subordinate of Seo Ji-hwan’s, whose case seems quite important in the beginning. Other incomplete stories would be of the secondary characters which can be quite an annoyance because we surely require more clarity on their lives as well.

Altogether, My Sweet Mobster has proved itself to be a good quality rom-com that can be enjoyed even by those who aren’t much into this genre. While some elements can get a little clumsy, the show brings about a well-written plot and interesting characters who are a pleasure to watch.
