My Name is Mo’Nique Reactions remain mostly positive as people have been anticipating the comedian’s return for a long time. Additionally, they are shocked by the revelation she makes at the end of the show.
It is a brand new Netflix Stand-up Comedy Special starring comedian Mo’Nique or Monique Angela Hicks. Written and executive produced by the comedian herself alongside her husband Sidney Hicks. L. Frazier directed the show, and Marilyn Gill is also credited as the executive producer. With a runtime of approximately 76 minutes, the performer shares her life stories from middle school to adulthood and multiple emotional revelations.
Through comedy, the artist shared intimate stories about her life that have been unknown to people until now. Among many revelations, she shared that during seventh grade, she was sent to special education classes by the school. Her hesitation to not reveal this before stemmed from society’s blatant preconceived notions to discriminate against special needs children and the stigma attached to it. However, she has overcome it and shares funny and meaningful childhood stories about her friends.
Additionally, she also makes a revelation which has been eating her up from the inside. Afraid to disappoint her late grandmother, she never disclosed her sexuality until this show. She shares that her attraction towards the same sex is a phenomenon she was born with, and that is her true identity. Moreover, she shares the long-kept secret with her husband, who supports her every step of the way.
The show is entertaining and filled with energy. The comedian is able to fill the room with energy and rile up the audience as she pleases. As soon as she stepped on the stage, she had total command over the hall, and no one could escape her powerful presence. Her stories are inspiring and tear-jerking, to say the least.
As usual, fans took to Twitter to discuss the stand-up special. Everyone is seen welcoming the comedian with her much-deserved solo show. They found her stories relatable and humorous. However, certain sections of the platform users were not impressed with the material. Even though the stories were inspiring, they were not too happy with the script. Nevertheless, everyone agrees that it was entertaining, and her vibrant personality is hard to dodge.
