Mrs Davis Episode 7 Recap

In the last episode, Celeste agreed to lend Simone the Lazarus Shroud if her daughter agreed to tell her where Montgomery is. We are taken to a port in this episode, where Arthur has been yelling at the crew to make sure they do their job. Meanwhile, Wiley and Simone are preparing themselves to continue this journey by boat. Now all they are waiting for is Celeste to come. She rolls up in a van ready with the Shroud. They all get on board, but at the last moment, Simone pulls Wiley apart to tell him something.

She tells him there is a tracker in his shoe, and while she is whispering all this, she cuffs him to the bench they are sitting at. He is livid because this is the last thing on his mind. The salt in the wound is the fact that her choice not to involve him makes him the love interest of her protagonist, and he cannot handle that. However, he doesn’t have to squirm for too long because the Prime Minister of Spain makes her way to him.

Agreeing to proxy for the algorithm, the Prime Minister details all the reasons why Wiley hasn’t been successful in any of his endeavours to help Simone, that he always and forever would remain a coward because he never realised that all of the decentralised code within the algorithm had been moved to the same server farm the Resistance has been working from. And unless Wiley doesn’t expand the Resistance to other locations, she will be forced to revoke his wings which give him clout in society.

Amidst this, we see Father Ziegler and Mathilde in a boat coming towards Simone and Celeste’s boat. However, the whale is just around the corner and is very sensitive to sound. Arthur communicates with them to let them know that they should shut off the engines, but they refuse to listen. Eventually, the whale makes its way to their boat and capsizes it. Mathilde is still alive, but Father Ziegler is nowhere to be found.

She is brought back to the boat and is notified about her daughter Clara’s death. While she is shook, she is still able to keep her wits to know that this quest is important. When Simone goes back to pray, she meets Jay, but he is in the middle of fixing his restaurants. She helps him out a little, but he lets her know that this quest she is on is causing all this ruckus. He commands her to stop, but she ignores him and continues to strap into the Lazarus Shroud to bring the Grail back.

When she is sent down in the grate, the whale comes and swallows her. She finds her way back to the restaurant, but Jay is nowhere to be found. However, the door to the Boss’ office is open. She walks in and sees a body laying there. Knowing that it was Jay, she reached for it, but the tether to her had been restrictive. In her struggle, another woman walks out, and we see that it is Mother Mary. She tells Simone about the time when Jesus had passed, and she held his body for three days.

In an attempt to preserve him, she fashioned a bowl from his skull and preserved it using some chemicals like pitch and amber. Explaining that mothers do insane things for children, this Grail became a tether for Jay. Whenever Mary wanted to meet Jay, she could be. Soon, other people could do it too. He has been trapped in the restaurant, even if he doesn’t feel that way, even if he loves serving others. Simone nods along as she understands. The Jesus clutched in Mary’s arms is just a baby, growing up to be something great.

Mary also lets Simone know that the Grail is actually a test. If you drink with selflessness with Jesus in mind, you’ll be fine, but if you’re angry, your head explodes. Wiley sets his HQ to detonate in an attempt to wipe Mrs Davis out. Obviously, he already knew that she was trying to bullshit him, but he did it anyways because the people in the Resistance needed something else to live for now. They needed to let go.

In a similar vein, Simone is still tethered to the outside world and unable to reach for the Grail. It is at this point she detaches the tether. Cut to the ocean, she walks out wet in the Shroud covered in weeds, the Grail safely deposited in her hands. On the other side of the ocean, Celeste, Arthur and Mathilde are worried. However, Simone is not that safe just yet because people on the beach have started singing Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant.

Mrs Davis Episode 7 Review

This episode is exactly how you would expect the second last episode to be, the cliffhanger is perfect, and the satisfaction is also enough to give closure that the series may come to an end soon. Moreover, the absurdity is taken to a whole new level with so many layers that it all makes sense when you look deep into the plot. The omnipotence of AI and then God is a brilliant contrast they have created in this series. Moreover, showing that the AI is slowly freeing a religious figure, is somehow more concerning.

Also, things have finally started to make sense when it comes to the Boss because, obviously, she would want it to be destroyed. The structure of this series is a true gem. Every episode carries its own charm, but it is so coherent. Absolutely brilliant.
