In this retelling of the 2005 movie of the same name, two lonely strangers are paired to work together for a shadowy organisation as hitmen as a married couple. However, what starts off as completely work-related and “platonic” soon turns into a passionate love affair as their stressful jobs also start to wreak havoc in their personal lives.

Who died at the end of the series?

In the end, Maya Erskine’s Mrs Smith has to face off against Parker Posey in a deadly battle, the only problem being that Erskine has only one bullet left. In the absolute last scene, we hear three gunshots probably indicating that both the women shot at each other but we don’t know who won. Plus, all three bullets were fired one after another in quick succession. So it mostly feels like Posey’s Mrs Smith might have murdered our Mrs Smith. Unfortunately, we are no closer to knowing the truth. If you hear the news that the series is getting renewed, rest assured Erskine’s Smith is still alive then.

Did John and Jane get over their marital woes?

In the end, fighting side by side, John and Jane do get over their marital woes but they realise the truth about their situations much before then. Jane realises that John didn’t kill her cat and John realises that Jane didn’t boobytrap his mother’s house because, in spite of taking shelter behind their issues, they come to realise the truth about their partners. Thus, when the other Smiths reach their home, John and Jane are in complete harmony and they kick ass in a beautifully synced manner that showcases exactly how well they know each other.

Why does John inject himself and Jane with the truth serum?

After the horrible fight between the two of them, John overpowers his wife and injects both of them with the truth serum so that they can finally tell each other everything that is on their minds without keeping anything back. It works because Jane confesses that she failed the CIA test because she had sociopathic tendencies and that she never slept with any targets.

John confesses about his brief stint in the Marines and that he really wants to have kids with Jane. The two of them tearfully talk about the number of kids that they want and then they start discussing Max’s death. However, before they are able to finish the conversation, the other John and Jane Smith enter their house in order to get rid of them.

But who are the other two Smiths?

The other two Smiths are, well, another couple of operatives who work for the same boss but whose only job is to get rid of other Smiths. That’s why their jobs were always considered high risk because they had to get rid of highly-trained operatives. Unfortunately, our John and Jane turned out to have the upper hand in the end and gave the two of them quite the run because the other John was shot badly quite early on and the other Jane wasn’t able to catch either of them before they found their way into the Panic Room.

Why was the neighbour happy the next day?

In the epilogue, the Smiths’ neighbour peeks into their house to see the horrible carnage in the quiet house and immediately calls his boss to let him know that he might now have a chance to sell it. It seems like he has no idea what really happened there but was happy with the turn of events thinking that the two probably had a huge fight (sans the guns).
