Moving In With Malaika Episode 2 Review: Overcoming Fears And Redefining Oneself

Moving In With Malaika is a new reality show that will centre around actress, model, dancer and VJ Malaika Arora. Created by Malaika herself, along with Banijay Asia, the show will give us an exclusive and up-close look at the life of the Indian celebrity. Moving in With Malaika Episode 2, which premiered on December 6, 2022, has a runtime of 28 minutes.

The actress rose to fame for her appearance in the famous Bollywood song Chaiyan Chaiyan from the movie Dil Se.. along with Shah Rukh Khan. She has been in the public eye ever since, and her divorce from Arbaaz Khan, brother of Salmaan Khan, is one of the most talked about instances around the town. She has also been a victim of internet trolls following her dating news with Arjun Kapoor.

Hence, she has decided to take matters into her own hands and create a show that will show her true self.

Disney+ Hotstar description of the show reads:

ALL set to showcase her true self, Malaika will shut down trolls in her quintessential Arora style as she opens up about her life

-Moving In With Malaika Episode 2 Review Contains No Spoilers-

The episode picked up from where episode 1 ended. Malaika is faced with yet another obstacle she must overcome for her life to return to normalcy. Her hesitation and panic meddling in her work life is causing serious issues.

Treating work and fulfilling its requirements like a therapy session felt rather comical and dramatic. Going to work is supposed to display professionalism, which is exactly what is expected from a reality show. Instead, it turned into the climax of a typical Bollywood movie where the hero conquers his fears and rises victorious.

One incident is stretched out for 15 minutes, with melodramatic flashbacks and music in the background; the audience will not take much time to figure out how the entire segment is scripted. Malaika getting upset about a workplace incident one minute and then completely changing her mind the next minute is far from reality.

From this episode, we get a rough idea of what the show will be about, and that is Malaika ticking off points from her bucket list. The audience will be shown a new fear she will face and overcome with each episode. Also, a peek at some of her relationships.

Famous model and actress Neha Dhupia appears in the later segment, which felt refreshing. The conversation between both celebrities is the only bit which felt authentic. Neha’s casual demeanour and her logical advice to Malaika concerning her acting career give us a closer look at the profession.

Moving In With Malaika Episode 2: Final Thoughts

The series calls itself a reality show, but it is nothing close to it. The audience is shown only what they want us to see; hence it comes off as inauthentic. From the instances to the conversations, the entirety of 28 minutes felt scripted, and the viewers will hardly get to witness anything remotely real.

It is high time for the Indian creators to realise that the audience is growing intelligent with time, and they cannot be fooled. Access to different shows from various countries is easily available to everyone, and it is hard not to notice the obvious differences between them. Malaika should have gone for a series with a good script to show off her acting skills rather than starring in a series posing as a reality show.
