Anna Sueangam-iam, who was crowned Miss Universe Thailand 2022, is making the heads turn for all the right reasons. Currently, competing in Miss Universe 2022 preliminary competition, she wore a dress that was made from trash essentially but is deeply connected to her humble background.
Called ‘Hidden Precious Diamond Dress’, Anna wore a unique upcycled dress created by MANIRAT. It is made from used aluminium pull-tabs of drink cans and Swarovski combined, shaped into a floor-length halter dress with a front slit. On a closer look, we can see the chained frame with pull tabs encrusted with diamonds making for the fabric body.
Along with creative fashion, it makes a statement about her upbringing and environment as well. At the event, Anna Sueangam-iam quoted, “You must not get stuck with murky surroundings you were born into, but do believe you have the power to change your own life for the better.”

On her official Instagram page, it was further explained that she had been brought up by a father who is a garbage collector, a street-sweeper mother, and a virtuous nun who was Anna’s great-grandmother. Although she was called by some ‘The garbage beauty queen,’ that never stopped her from shining bright as a precious gem, that too on a universal stage like the 71st Miss Universe pageant.
Along with her floor-length outfit, she has accessorised with diamond earrings and a bracelet on one wrist. In terms of makeup, she opted for bold metallic eye makeup and brown nude lip colour. Also, she has slicked her hair back in a bun which gives her a clean and symmetrical look, added with simple shimmering heels.
The 71st Miss Universe pageant is to be held at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States on January 14, 2023. At the event, contestants from 84 countries and territories will compete, and Harnaaz Sandhu of India will crown her successor at the end. This will also mark the first time in the history of the pageant that they will have an all-female presenting panel.
Also, the competition will be the first event since 1962 not to be televised on any major American television network, but it will air on the streaming provider The Roku Channel as the official broadcaster of the show for the first time. While Anna Sueangam-iam is already making a buzz with her distinctive style, it could be helpful to her in the competition as well.
