Millie Bobby Brown Welcomes Baby Through Adoption: Celebrities Who Chose Adoption to Build Their Families

Millie Bobby Brown Welcomes Baby Through Adoption: Celebrity announcements generally make the internet collectively analyse the situation and make their own assumptions, followed by a series of discourse. However, Millie Bobby Brown’s latest family update feels a little different.

Millie Bobby Brown Welcomes Baby Through Adoption

Millie Bobby Brown and her husband Jake Bongiovi have welcomed their second child through adoption, which was confirmed by the couple’s joint Instagram post featuring their hands alongside their children’s. The caption said, “Hi little guy!”

The entire process of adoption, especially when it comes from names so well known, gives hope that a sense of kindness and love is still alive in society.

It is not just about Millie Bobby Brown, but more celebrities have chosen to adopt children. This is not a list about who has the biggest family, the most famous kids, or the most known or unknown adoption story because families are not award categories. This is simply a look at celebrities whose journeys to parenthood included adoption: sometimes alongside biological children, sometimes as single parents, and sometimes in ways that challenged the conventional idea of what a family is supposed to be.

Angelina Jolie

If celebrity adoption has had one of its most recognisable faces, it is Angelina Jolie, who became a mother through adoption in 2002 when she adopted Maddox from Cambodia. She later adopted Zahara from Ethiopia in 2005 and Pax from Vietnam in 2007. She also has three biological kids, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne, with Brad Pitt.

Jolie’s family story has always existed outside the neat little boxes celebrity families are often squeezed into. Her children came into her life through different circumstances, countries and routes to parenthood. Adoption was not a “footnote” to her family but the foundation. The family quite literally crossed borders and biological definitions.

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock’s journey to motherhood is another story that unfolded alongside some of the big moments of her career. Bullock adopted her son Louis Bardo in 2010 and later adopted her daughter Laila in 2015.

Sandra Bullock’s adoption journey has also been as a single parent, while her later partner, Bryan Randall, co-parented dedicatedly until he died in 2023.

Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen’s adoption story has been intertwined with a much bigger conversation about women, marriage and the expectations placed on motherhood. Sen adopted her first daughter, Renee, in 2000 when she was just 24 and later adopted Alisah, her second daughter, in 2010.

Back in those days, especially during the first adoption, her decision to become a mother as a young, unmarried woman attracted plenty of questions and even a challenging legal battle. Sen won the battle and became a mother to her daughter at a young age.

Sushmita Sen’s story becomes bigger than a celebrity headline because the interesting part is not simply that she adopted two children but that she did so at a time when Indian society was still invested in the idea that motherhood was supposed to follow marriage. She broke the order unapologetically.

Madonna

The singer adopted David Banda in 2006 and Mercy James in 2009. Madonna later adopted Stella and Esther in 2017, while she already had her biological children Lourdes Leon and Rocco Ritchie.

Her journey with adoption has been accompanied by public scrutiny. Celebrity adoption stories can sometimes get packed into a very shiny narrative about love and destiny, but when subjects involving laws, institutions, family circumstances, and questions about cultural identity enter, things become seemingly complicated. Madonna’s story has been discussed within those wider debates for years.

Sunny Leone

Sunny Leone and her husband Daniel Weber adopted their daughter Nisha Kaur Weber in 2017 when Nisha was 21 months old, from Latur, Maharashtra.

The couple later welcomed twin sons, Asher and Noah, through surrogacy, which means Sunny’s family was built through more than one route to parenthood. There is something worth noticing: adoption is not necessarily the beginning and end of someone’s story of becoming a parent.

There Is Not Just One Way to Become a Family

Millie Bobby Brown’s second adoption has put celebrity adoption back into the spotlight, but the stories around her are not new. Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock, Sushmita Sen, Madonna, and Sunny Leone have all built families that include adopted children, sometimes alongside biological children and sometimes as single parents. Their stories are not identical.

There is no universal celebrity story because there is not a single template. Perhaps that is the part worth holding onto behind all the headlines, Instagram announcements and celebrity photographs because the celebrities who chose adoption are more than that.
