Met Gala 2023 Asian Celebs: Fashion’s biggest night is here, which means it is just the right time to sit back and watch some fashion unfold on the world’s biggest red carpet. This year Asian celebrities are really taking over with their presence. From artists like BLACKPINK’s Jennie to actors like Alia Bhatt, this year is seeing some hardcore representation from Asia and we are all for it!
This fashion festival is essentially an annual fundraising event that is held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City and is an invite-only event that is studded with renowned celebrities from various spheres of society, starting from film and television to sports and politics. It is organised by the fashion magazine Vogue. This year the theme for the event is titled “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”. It is set to honour the legendary icon of the fashion industry, Karl Lagerfeld.
Paying Homage to Lagerfeld, we have some old and new faces walking the red carpet this year. Let us quickly breeze through them in a short list down below!
Met Gala 2023 Asian Celebs: BLACKPINK’s Jennie, Alia Bhatt and More!
Jennie (BLACKPINK)
The K-pop star put her Channel game on with an item right out of the designer brand’s archives. The minidress that she wore was white and off-shoulder with a scalloped neckline. The elegant look was elevated due to the pleated skirt and a contrasting black ribbon and gloves that complimented the camellia flower in her hair.
Priyanka Chopra Jones
Bringing out her inner Valentino-Bulgari woman, it was the Citadel star with her musical husband who went black, white and everything nice on this red carpet.
Alia Bhatt
Alia Bhatt’s first and she has served herself perfectly choup-ed! Adhering to the theme, Bhatt brought the iconic Channel bride to life through her look inspired by Claudia Schiffer’s 1992 Chanel bridal look.
Michelle Yeoh
The Everything Everywhere All At Once actor looked like a dream in her black and white Karl Lagerfeld ensemble on the red carpet. A dramatic train, a slit skirt and sleeves that could carry the love we have for her, Yeoh had a diamond Richard Mille watch and knee-high leather boots to complete the look.
Song Hye-Kyo
The Fendi brand ambassador and South Korean actor, Hye-Kyo walked the carpet in the brand’s pale pink silk dress. With lace work all over it, the actor looked gorgeous!
Ke Huy Quan
Is this Karl Lagerfeld himself? Well, the pinstripe suit and fingerless leather gloves by Quan are giving us just the feels with the perfect jewellery set to accessorize the attire with.
Jackson Wang
The musical genius really made sure we end up drooling all over him, isn’t he? With ash-coloured hair paying homage to Lagerfeld’s whites, the star wore a black military jacket, courtesy- of Louis Vuitton with black gloves and glasses.
Cai Xuhun
The Chinese singer-songwriter wore a customized Prada Miuccia that drove us down the Lagerfeld Lane.
He Cong
The Chinese model went minimalistic with her look at this gala. She flaunted a collared, sleeveless white top and paired it with a long black velvet skirt.
Liu Wen
Paying the perfect homage, it is the Chinese model and Chanel muse who rolled on the red carpet in a black Tory Burch gown. The dress was one notch up due to the tulle skirt with white floral appliqués all over it.
Ashley Park
The fingerless gloves are everything this time around! A fishnet gown by Michael Kors with a pearl Coco Chanel belt was the perfect pick for the Emily in Paris star it seems.
Mindy Kaling
A Jonathan Simkhai piece, Kaling’s dress had it all, from fringes to florals!
Elieen Gu
Gu picked Hong Kong designer Robert Wun’s debut haute couture collection for her look this year and we think, she made the right choice. Wearing a white peplum, red-wine-stained gown it was a powerful comeback for this star.
Simu Liu
The Barbie star went right opposite to what we would think a Ken would wear. A Versace tux did all the proper tricks in the book for the Marvel marvel.
This year’s red carpet began at 6:00 p.m. ET at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City on May 1, 2023. The event was live-streamed from 6:30 p.m. ET onwards on Vogue’s website.
