Mathagam Part 2 Ending Explained

Mathagam Episode 8 resumes Ashwath’s wholehearted plan of taking down Sekar’s syndicate, but with traps all around and hostages at his disposal, Ashwath has to take a step back. Even when he moves forward, he always seems to be lagging behind, which ignites the idea of a mole being in their midst too. The final episodes capture the ultimate showdown, but also show Ashwath’s change of heart as he lets Commissioner Sayanthika be his voice of reason.

With Sekar at Safia’s place in the village, the entire police force surrounds him from all sides. Ashwath wanted to sneak up on the gangster and ambush him, but Sekar was alert enough to stand firm with his gun on his shoulder. Safia’s brother constantly urges them to move out of the house instead of being cooped up inside. He walks out to prove it to them that they’re safe and their way is clear. Ashwath identifies his as a regular civilian and orders his men to stand down, yet still a bullet flies out of nowhere and wounds the young boy.

When he’s later taken to the local infirmary, the lady there confirms that the fired bullet in fact came from a police gun as she’d previously worked with the force. Each inspector’s gun is checked, but as one of them is missing his, he’s inquired. Ultimately, he spills the truth that he was asked to switch places and go to a different spot as compared to his original one, and when doing so, he lost his gun.

Senthil confronts him thinking that he’s lying and Ashwath, at the time, doesn’t know what to make of the situation. When he finally speaks to Sayanthika, she guides him to use the power of persuasion to pull Sekar out instead of pushing him further back by instilling fear in him. So, Ashwath does exactly that later. He approaches Sekar with a sweeter tongue and promises him and Safia that her brother was being treated and ensures them of his safety. To win Sekar over, he walks in front of the gate and removes his bulletproof vest and again commands his men to stay put and not fire away in front of Sekar.

Safia too does her bit to convince Sekar that he can’t control everyone using fear and eventually he surrenders and walks out with Ashwath, who commands full security to escort Sekar out the magistrate’s house. While Sekar is taken to the police bus, Ashwath sits in a different car, and just as he’s about to leave, Mehar approaches him and informs of him of her suspicion against Senthil sir. She brings forth the same inspector who’d lost his gun, who had now recovered his lost gun which had been used to fire at Safia’s sun. That officer too informs Ashwath that his position had been switched at the last moment by Senthil sir.

To prove her point further, she pulls out the same piece of paper that had been used to draw the plan of action and the officers’ formation for the operation, but had been torn apart by Senthil, who’d later sent used a local man as a messenger to hand over the page to Sekar behind Ashwath’s back. The same local man is also pulled forth and he confirms that the escape route was tied to a goat’s neck as per Senthil’s orders.

Ashwath leaves his car and tries to locate Senthil but he can’t be found. He locates another officer running away from the mini bus that was to be used to escort Sekar out of that place. When Ashwath walks closer to the vehicle, he find Senthil in attack mode, attempting to shoot Sekar. Finally, he saves Sekar and fight off Senthil as he’s caught red-handed and his facade of honesty is shattered on the ground.

When facing off against Senthil, Ashwath notices an incoming call on the other officer’s phone as he’d been receiving calls the entire time they were trying to carry out their mission, while he’d been lying that it was girlfriend on the other side of the call. Mehar also reminds Ashwath that Senthil knew things that were never outed in front of him, thus hinting at his ties with a bigger connection and Senthil too spills out that there’s a bigger baddie at play than Sekar and Jambuk Sait.

He warns him not to take the call, but the episode ends with the picture of his phone’s screen showing us the caller’s name as Jasmine and Ashwath picks it up, again leaving us hanging about who truly was on the other side of the phone.
