Who is the head controlling the mafia operation?

Throughout the series, we see that every person whom Nicky and Morgan meet has someone above them pulling the strings. From Yusuf, we are introduced to Ivan, who, in turn, is apparently a part of the Italian mafia. After Ivan and the others are killed in front of them by the Italians for trying to make a backhanded deal, Morgan and Nicky find out about the real puppet master’s identity at their mother’s soiree for winning the mayoral campaign.

Nicky finds the Italians at the house while Morgan is taken by her future mother-in-law, Annette, to a room. The latter then gets the chilling confession from Annette, wherein she shows her the necklace that started this mess and tells her that she has to marry Max because, even though she isn’t in love with him anymore, he does love her. She then tells her that she has been the one behind the entire operation and the only reason she wasn’t murdered with Ivan and the others is that she is Max’s girlfriend.

Do Morgan and Nicky get out of it alive?

Morgan and Nicky do get out alive, only because Annette has to make sure that Morgan marries Max, it will break her son’s heart. However, will she be able to keep up the ruse, especially when Natalie, in a drunken haze, confesses that she regrets marrying Kevin and warns Morgan not to make the same mistake as her?

What does the end signify?

The end showcases Annette’s family and Linda’s standing together for a photo, excited about their win and the upcoming wedding. However, we can clearly see where Morgan and Nicky’s thoughts lie, as with the truth now out, they know that they will not be able to do what they want and are now stuck in this situation.
