MasterChef India Season 7 Episode 14 Review: One Bad Dish Spoils the Whole Course

MasterChef India Season 7 Episode 14 is titled ‘Essence Of Being A Chef’ and the synopsis reads as – Home cooks are under extreme pressure as they tackle with time while keeping food quality in check. Will they manage to impress the chefs and the customers?

The judges of the show include Vikas Khanna and Ranveer Brar, who are joined by Garima Arora, the first-ever female chef to be a judge on the show. The cooking competition show is a nationwide quest to find the best ‘home cook’ and draws out some of the most brilliant chefs from across India. The judges sample recipes from various cuisines that the contestants prepare in their search for India’s ‘MasterChef’. The show is produced by Endemol Shine India and it is directed by Neeraj Shetty.

In the last episode, the two competing teams had served the first course, out of which the Green team was favoured by the judges and the guest as well. However, for the second course in today’s episode, both teams were running behind in time and were having issues with putting up all the components of the dish together.

In the red team, Nayanjyoti was assigned the second course primarily and due to the various number of ingredients, he was not able to do everything on his own and was definitely feeling the pressure. Similarly, in the green team, Priyanka was not able to keep on top of things and Chef Garima had to intervene to get her team to listen to her and delegate properly.

Finally, the green team served three cheese fig pizzas with baby spinach and pine nuts salad. The red team served shrimp tortellini pasta with pesto sauce and grilled tomatoes and asparagus. The judges found the red team’s dish more presentable but the asparagus had no flavour and the guests also preferred the same.

The third course was dessert for which the green team served lemon gelato with pistachio crumble and strawberry sauce. While the red team served limoncello tiramisu with lemon curd, however, the cookie used for tiramisu was very hard. The judges liked the green team’s dish in terms of flavour but not much in terms of presentation.

The last course was coffee based and in the preparation for it, both the team seem to be on the edge. In the green team, Dyuti was tasked with the coffee, which was supposed to be hot and would go with bombolini filled with hazelnuts. But due to miscommunication, she prepared it cold and that made the whole dish taste different. Also, the bombolini had a very little filling and a dense dough.

While team red prepared vanilla espresso with a homemade pistachio sponge and white chocolate, in case anybody wants to make their coffee sweeter. The judges commented that they should have swapped the sponge cake with the cookie of the last course, while they didn’t like the green team’s cold coffee a bit.

Once all the courses were done, the guests were asked to put the team colour coin in the box, which they found better. The judges also had a gold coin each, with was equal to having two coins. Many contestants were feeling overwhelmed after the task was over and they could be seen teary-eyed as well.

Final Thoughts: MasterChef India Season 7 Episode 14

The service challenge ended with the red team getting 16 coins and the green team getting 14 coins. So from the guest’s judgement, the red team won, however, now comes the judge’s turn to cast their votes. Chef Vikas put his coin in the green team, while chef Ranveer and Garima gave their votes to the red team – making them the ultimate winners.

Like I said in the last episode review, Priyanka believed that each contestant on her team will do well on their own, failing to keep everything in check. While Aruna was always on top of things, although there were quite a few miscommunications, the planning helped her overall in the challenge.

The next episode seems like another elimination as they are seen in the black aprons. They will have to recreate another dish by a guest chef and from the preview, it looks like Dyuti might fall behind in the challenge. Even in today’s episode, her laidback attitude might have come in the way of her team’s win. Maybe if the coffee was as good, the results might have been different.

MasterChef India Season 7 is currently streaming on SonyLIV and a new episode is released from Monday to Friday at 9 PM.
