MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 2 Review: Jamie Oliver Two Round Challenge

As the contestants enter the kitchen for the second time in MasterChef Australia Season 15, they are informed that they will be competing to gain immunity. It is, obviously, one of the most important things in the kitchen and to have a chance at it, the home cooks are supposed to get through a two-round challenge.

Jock lays out the details of the first round in the latest challenge. It is a 15-minute cooking challenge with the pantry and garden all accessible to the contestants to cook something delicious that will take them to round two. Jamie Oliver shares his tip and the catch of this challenge: admitting what is possible but, also understanding that big flavours can be achieved in little time.

Judge Melissa Leong takes us further through what the episode is up to. It is revealed that only five contestants who make the best dish in round one can proceed to round two. As time starts, the participants go on a run cooking whatever they think is the best for their selection. We see contestants like Rhiannon living on the edge a little bit in the first round, while some other contestants breeze through. We also get to listen to the back story of the home cooks as the round progresses.

Almost everyone faired really well in the 15-minute cooking challenge making it difficult for the judges to pick the top five. The verdict, however, lands and the names that move forward are Antonio, Grace, Rhianno, Andrea and Jessica. In the second round, the contestants have a task almost too difficult and priceless to achieve- they will have Jamie Oliver cook in front of them and they will have to not only follow his lead but, also keep up with him (and his pace!).

Jamie tells the cooks that he is going to cook his life-changing dish, a mushroom and spinach Rotolo. He tells the back story surrounding this special pasta dish and how it changed his life before going head-on with his cooking charisma. There is less pause to admire Oliver and, more thrill to follow him in this round. There is a considerable amount of challenge and, overcoming it but, only certain ones ultimately succeed.

MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 2: Final Thoughts

Overall, MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 2 was an interesting one, especially the second round. It was different from what we are used to when there is a follow-up to a 15-minute cooking challenge. The home cooks got really emotional and overwhelmed when it came to cooking with Jamie Oliver but, we completely get where that range of emotions is coming from. Entering into the immunity challenge in the upcoming episode are Antonio and Jessica who nail the second round.
