MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 57 Review: Solo Service Challenge

MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 57 is called the ‘Distillery Service Elimination Challenge’. Keyma is not a part of the elimination challenge as she won the previous challenge. The cooks who will have to cook are Billie, Daniel, Julie and Sarah. One of them will be sent home if they don’t give their best today.

The synopsis reads, “Four contestants face elimination as they visit Tasmania’s Lawrenny Distillery, where they must choose a spirit to showcase in a four-course service challenge.”

MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 57 Recap Contains Spoilers

Judges Andy Allen, Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrillo, take the contestants to the Lawrenny Distillery Challenge. The four contestants have to either use gin or whiskey from the distillery and make it shine in their dish. It’s a service challenge where each contestant has to make 20 dishes+3 for the judges. They pick up a number and randomly get assigned a particular course to cook 23 dishes.

Sarah gets a vegetarian course, Daniel gets seafood, Billie gets meat, and Julie has to cook a dessert. Each contestant gets 3 hours to make 20 dishes. Sarah uses whiskey to cook her dish Mushroom and Whiskey broth with Togarashi Parsnip chips. The judges found some flaws in her dish, but her use of whiskey was appreciated.

Dan first decides to serve gin-cured salmon. However, Jock raises the concern of falling short of time. Dan immediately decides to switch to making salmon confit. Sadly, his salmon is overcooked. A worried Dan doesn’t give up, and after Julie motivates him, he starts cooking again. Dan’s dish is Gin Squid. The judges love his dish and call it the ‘dish of the day’.

Billie’s cooked Pearl barley Encrusted Lamb. The judges praised Billie’s dish too. Sadly, Julie’s dish had the most faults in the new MasterChef Australia Season 14 episode. Her dish is Whiskey Toffee pudding. The pudding was burnt and had a bitter taste. Hence, Julie gets eliminated from the competition.

MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 57 Review: Final Thoughts

While I understand it’s Top 5, and the competition will get tougher, the service challenge could’ve been for 10 diners instead of 20. Three hours are very less to cook 20 dishes and 3 more for the judges. No wonder everyone had such an anxious cook throughout.
