Manifest Netflix Spin-Off 2027: 5 Shows That Got Their Spin-Offs Right

Manifest Netflix Spin-Off 2027: In August 2026, the streaming platform Netflix announced Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery, a new series from the Manifest world. What’s On Netflix writes, “According to the latest production listings, Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery is set to film in Vancouver, British Columbia, from January 19th, 2027, to June 9th, 2027.”

Manifest Netflix Spin-Off 2027

A Manifest spin-off is definitely an interesting deal. The original series built its appeal around a mystery that kept expanding, with the passengers of Flight 828 returning home after years had passed without them experiencing the time, and there was always a question, connection and reason to suspect that they were playing an elaborate game with everyone involved.

However, a new show cannot survive on familiar branding alone. The history of television has given us spin-offs that became dear in their own right, sometimes even giving their parent show a real competition, and sometimes reminding us that just because we love a character does not mean we necessarily need more seasons.

With Arrivals preparing to enter production, here are five popular show spin-offs that understood what made their stories worth telling.

Better Call Saul

Better Call Saul was a spin-off of Breaking Bad. This is a spin-off that deserves to be brought up whenever someone questions whether an existing television universe can produce something truly special.

What makes Better Call Saul interesting is that familiarity does not make the story any less interesting. In fact, knowing Jimmy McGill eventually up adds a layer to the experience. The spin-off shows that a spin-off does not need to recreate its original’s exact formula. Breaking Bad had its own distinctive energy, while Better Call Saul gave a slower character study, drama, and the consequences of small decisions.

Frasier

The spin-off of the show Cheers, Frasier ran for 11 seasons, establishing itself as a major sitcom in its own right. It also became an example of how a spin-off can preserve what audiences liked about a character while giving it a new environment. Perhaps that was the trick!

There was no major “reinvention” of sorts. Sometimes you just need to put familiar personalities in a situation where the flaws become funnier. The setting changed; Frasier created a different kind of comedy around family, relationships, professional pretensions and the entertaining gap between how people think they are and how they behave when their personal lives get involved.

Angel

The original show Buffy the Vampire Slayer gave audiences a supernatural world filled with vampires, demons and apocalypse, while Angel emerged from that universe with a slightly different focus. Rather than remaining primarily within the Buffy premise, the series explored Angel’s attempts to help people, confront evil and seek redemption for his violent past.

Angel could be funny, even absurd occasionally, and a product of its supernatural television era, but its willingness to explore darker themes gave it a distinct identity.

The Good Fight

A spin-off of The Good Wife, this show became interesting by establishing a universe to examine questions that the predecessor approached from a different angle. Rather than simply repeating what the earlier show gave, The Good Fight develops its own concerns around power, institutions, politics and people who operate them.

The series also had a different creative space to explore the contemporary issues of the time. Its connection to The Good Wife gave the audiences a familiar entry point, but it did not depend on nostalgia to make the arguments.

Xena: Warrior Princess

Before Xena: Warrior Princess became a television favourite, Xena appeared as a recurring character in Hercules: The Legendary Journey.

Xena: Warrior Princess developed a distinctive tone of its own, balancing action, humour and drama without being scared to get strange. The series recognised the potential of a character who otherwise remained part of somebody else’s story. Xena got a world of her own to explore.

Can Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery Join the League?

There is absolutely no dearth of television spin-offs, but the successful ones tend to understand a fairly simple distinction. Returning to a familiar world is not the same as having a reason to tell another story within it.

The mentioned shows did not get success in the exact same way, and that is part of the point. There is no established single formula for making a spin-off work, but what matters is whether the new series can establish its own identity rather than existing because of its predecessor. Arrivals has the advantage of a recognisable TV world and an original creative team, but the real matter would depend on the story itself.
