On October 29th, MAMAMOO’s singer Solar released her new song First Love which is part of her compilation project. Adding another masterpiece to the list, this song touched your heart with its soothing tunes and the singer’s vocals. However, the lyrics make you reminisce about the first love that was never fulfilled, leaving you longing. The song conveys a beautiful message and this remake by the artist has definitely taken us back to a time; a song forgotten.
Solar Gamsung is the singer’s musical project that she has been working on since 2015. This is an ongoing project in which the artist brings beautifully rearranged remakes of songs by old Korean and Japanese singers along with her original song Star Wind Flower Sun. First Love is the latest addition to this list and the artist has also taken part in rewriting the lyrics in Korean while maintaining the originality of the popular hit.
Now let’s move on to the music video review!
First Love Music Video by Solar Review
Before we begin, I have to point out that this song is absolutely beautiful and has brought nostalgia for one’s first love in a way that makes you smile with tears in your eyes. Solar’s vocals soothe broken hearts while the lyrics maintain the originality of the song, leading them to the phase of moving on with a smile. It also brings about a sense of reminiscence for one’s first love from years ago, making one smile at those memories without a hint of pain.
The singer has been known to have an enchanting voice and she has definitely brought the best version of herself in this song. The vocals, the melodies, the way the song progresses, everything hits right on point without a hint of disruption from anywhere. She carries the song elegantly while taking you to a forgotten memory that was once painful, but now you know it is okay. She is healing hearts with this song and there is no denying that.

While the song is a remake of Japanese singer Utada Hikaru’s First Love, she has managed to capture the essence of this masterpiece and make it her own. Meanwhile, for those who didn’t know about the original, this song has managed to reach every heart out there who needs these lyrics.
Coming to the music video, the scenes of her trying to send a letter (to her lover) speak words like no other. Dressed as an innocent girl who just experienced the end of her love, she holds hope in the letter and strengthens herself to send it. These scenes definitely make an impact as she shows how some stories do need another chance. However, as the lyrics also speak of moving on, there is also hope that even if the letters don’t get a reply, she won’t be sad for long.

Adding onto this is the beautiful creativity shown by the director that compliments both her aura along with the sad lovesong. There is the brightness of hope but also the dull colours of sadness. The creativity really leaves one astounded while you are captured into feeling the emotions that are being conveyed in the song.
Finally, as we move to the end where she puts the letter in the mailbox, it is a scene shrouded in darkness with no road ahead. As the scene conveys the message of an uncertain future for this love, it doesn’t deny the hope for a better future. Altogether, this music video is a creative masterpiece that holds many deep meanings that will take time to discover because the singer is enchanting us all with her vocals.
Overall, this is a beautiful addition to her compilation and is something that touches every heart.

Thanks for your nice review. First of all, there are some misinformation here. Solar Gamsung is not just one album but a remake of masterpieces project starting from 2015 with a total of 8 parts (single or EP) and 14 songs up to now. Part 1-6 were released gradually from 2015 to 2018, and Part 7 and Part 8 were released in this year (2024). I think author missed the 4 songs from Part 6, Where the Wind Rises, Nada Sou Sou, It’s been a long time, Star Wind Flower Sun (solo ver.), and the b-side of Part 8, Love Letter.
Most of the songs are remakes, except Star Wind Flower Sun (solo ver.) was solely written by Solar. In addition, she participated in the Korean lyrics write for First Love, the first official remake both in Korea and internationally.
I love the reinterpretation of Japanese hit song by Solar with her delicate tone and emotional expression. Her unique voice and the Korean lyrics that she participated in rewrite not only capture the original meaning of the Japanese lyrics well but bring a new life to the original song with escalating emotional layers from immersing in the past to gradually putting an end. The MV is also very well made that portrays a very nice storyline about First Love, especially I love the beginning silence when she was arranging old staff until she found an old unsent letter that brought her back to memories about her first love.
Thank you for letting us know where we missed out on the information about Solar Gamsung. This project is certainly a masterpiece and the music video was absolutely beautiful. I have made the changes as pointed out and I hope that it satisfies fans of the artist.
Cool! I just noticed you have adapted your article and I sincerely appreciate you to read my lengthy reply. However, “The album consists of several remakes and covers of old Korean and Japanese artists along with her original song Star Wind Flower Sun.” is still not immune from misleading as the project is not just one album but a series of albums aka parts, and they are all remakes with delicate re-arrangements, not just covers. I would suggest to remove “and covers”. Detailed reactions by classical musicians can be found in ReacttotheK YouTube channels. Besides, it might not be easy to just change the wording from “album” to “project” as it would make “The project consists of songs” in your next sentence looks repetitive. So, my two cents of suggestion is to change it to “The remakes in this project consists of songs like”. These are just some details that her fans would care but we can’t help much unless there are writers like you who are willing to hear our voices. Thank you again. Cheers!
Hello again! Once again, I appreciate the feedback and hope that the changes this time satisfy you. Please let me know if any further details need to be added. Have a great day!
