The eagerly awaited K-pop audition survival series premiered on May 15, immersing viewers in its third week with an enticing glimpse of Make Mate 1 Episode 3 Preview. Make Mate One (메이크메이트원), the Korean reality competition series co-produced by KBS and Makestar, showcases 36 participants, including idol trainees. Unlike traditional survival programs featuring trainees from entertainment agencies, MA1 spotlights ordinary boys without agency representation. The ultimate debut group will emerge as Makestar’s latest boy group sensation.
Heading the esteemed panel of judges are prominent figures deeply immersed in the K-pop realm. Spearheaded by EXO’s Xiumin as the host, the panel boasts Solar, renowned vocal coach Lim Han-byul (Onestar), dance authority Kim Sung-eun, and rap mentors Hanhae, Vata, and Ingyoo. With their combined wealth of experience, they will provide guidance and assessment to the contestants, culminating in the selection of a handful of finalists.

In the next episode, tension will rise for the contestants as their individual rankings based on their first performance are revealed. They will also head to boot camp, where they will receive a surprise visit from the producer, who will assign them their next mission: preparing a performance in 24 hours. The contestants, who are not yet well-trained artists, will struggle to memorize the choreography in such a short time, making the challenge even more difficult. Additionally, we will finally see the main host of the show, EXO’s Xiumin, who was absent in the first two episodes.
Brief Make Mate 1 Episode 2 Recap
The episode began with the remaining teams preparing for their first mission. The Fiction unit, consisting of Kai, Yoon Jae-yong, Ki Hyung-joon, and Lee Do-ha, looked nervous initially, as some members had never danced before. Despite this, their performance went well, with only minor mistakes that were easily overlooked for a first performance. During the audience vote, Lee Do-ha won their hearts with his charm.
Next was the Miss Right unit, featuring Kim Sun-yub, An Xin, Kim Se-gon, and Chen Shian Fu. Their performance was impressive, and the judges noted significant improvement from their practice sessions. An Xin emerged as the audience’s favorite from this group.
Following them, the Very Good unit performed Block B’s original song. This unit included Yoon Deok, Jia Hao, Kim Hak-sung, and Yu Seop. Their performance was strong and impactful, impressing the audience, contestants, and judges alike. Yoon Deok was chosen as the audience’s favorite.
The Hello Future unit, performing an NCT original, consisted of Bing Fan, Jung Hyun-wook, Midori, Kim Seung-ho, and Lee Jang-hee. Despite the song’s difficulty, they shone brightly and made the performance enjoyable for the audience, receiving much appreciation. Bing Fan, as the center, kept the vibe of the song lively and was voted the audience’s favorite.
Lastly, the U unit performed a song by Super Junior. This unit included Jo Jae-hyun, Yoon Ho-hyun, Kim Seung-ho, Aki, and Choi Han-gyul. Their performance was outstanding, showcasing their talent. Choi Han-gyul was selected as the audience’s favorite from this group.
