1. Bad Santa (2003)
There is literally not a single parallel universe where Billy Bob Thornton’s Bad Santa doesn’t make it to a list like this. Infact, as an avid enjoyed of this Santa Heist Comedy, I can duly attach the significance of the film, in the very inception of this topic. Perhaps, Willie Soke might be the very reason why there are so many renditions of Santa Claus in modern day pop culture.
Directed by Terry Zwigoff and written by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the movie is fits all criteria for a fan favourite flick, with a notorious version of Santa Claus. Furthermore, the flick is edited by Robert Hoffman and is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
2. The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
The Christmas Chronicles is one of those rare holiday themed movies that get it almost right (at least the first part) with the subject matter. However, one thing that makes it even more enjoyable, is the absolute chill out version of Santa Claus (played by Kurt Russel), that not only gets arrested in the film, but also breaks into a rock and roll performance.
The film is directed by Clay Kaytis and has a screenplay written by Matt Lieberman, with a total runtime of one hour and forty three minutes. You can stream this extremely fun loving version of Santa Claus on Netflix.
3. Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010)
Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale should begin with a basic warning to its viewers, “Not your friendly North Pole Santa Claus”. The film revolves around a much darker (and graphic) version of Mr Claus, that is bound to upset many fans of the legend. However, if you are into horror stuff, then this might be the best rendition for your bingeful interest.
This horror fantasy feature is directed and written by Jalmari Helander, and stars Onni Tommila, Jorma Tommila, Per Christian Ellefsen, and Tommi Korpela in titular roles. You can stream it on Hulu.
4. Rise Of The Guardians (2012)
Rise Of The Guardians is prime of example of a children movie, with a robust Santa Claus. Moreover, in this adventurous flick, we get to see Sain Nichol in a supporting role that brings a ray of hope, everytime he comes on the screen.
Although its not entirely based on the warrior version of Santa Claus, it makes for a strong contender on the list. Directed by Peter Ramsey, this adventurous flick is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
5. Fatman (2020)
Fatman is a Mel Gibson thriller that revolves around Chris Cringle, aka the Santa Claus, who is forced to work hand in hand with the government operatives, which eventually ends in nobody’s favour.
It’s a conventional action flick, with a very predictable outcome. However, if you are in it for some hardcore Santa Claus action, then you won’t be disappointed at all. You can stream it on Peacock.
6. Santa’s Slay (2005)
Santa’s Slay unravels the real truth behind Christmas, and reveals that Mr Klaus is just another demonic force held together by a trap of forceful kindness. The film later unleashes the evil side of the Saint, and totally flips his made up personality.
The film did not farewell among the critics and only experimented with the polar opposite nature of Santa Claus. It was directed by David Steiman and is avaiable to watch on Hulu.
7. Fred Claus (2007)
This Christmas classic revolves around Fred (played by Vince Vaughn), the older brother of Santa Claus, who constantly lands himself in some sort of trouble. Moreover, the equally kind and straight forward Santa, decides to help him for the last time, if he is ready to come back to North Pole and distribute gifts.
The plot of the film is mostly centered around Fred Claus, but also features a blunt and honest version of Santa, that definetly deserves a place on this list. You can stream this movie on Apple TV Plus.
8. Santa Claus The Movie
I agree that this version of Santa Claus is slightly nicer at times, but there is no doubt that it is still quite a powerful represntation.
