Discussion (Screenplay and performances)

Netflix movie Look Both Ways focuses on two different realities (simultaneously) of one person. The screenplay is linear and uncomplicated, which doesn’t confuse the viewer. Director Wanuri Kahiu managed to show us the difference yet the similarity in how Nat’s life pans out.

Look Both Ways Still 1

We watch how Nat deals with her pregnancy and motherhood while the other Nat works hard to fulfil her dreams. There are challenges in both her journeys, but she keeps going on.

In both realities, Nat falls in love with unexpected people. She has different obstacles, heartbreaks and achievements. The story is about the possibilities that we as humans have in our minds. We always wonder ‘What If’ when we are about to take a decision or not sure about something we are doing. But in the end, things fall in place just the way they are meant to be.

Lili Reinhart became a household name as Betty Cooper because of the teenage crime drama, Riverdale. Watching her lead such an interesting story is quite refreshing. As Nat, Lili plays two characters, having different lives, and she shines throughout. Even if it’s the same woman, Lili brings out the distinctiveness of Nat, a mother, and Nat, a career woman. Her chemistry with Danny Ramirez aka Gabe, is heartwarming. The rest of the cast plays their part well.

Look Both Ways Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, Lili’s latest Netflix release is an interesting and insightful watch. The songs used in the movie are peppy. The story doesn’t get complicated, even if the screenplay moves a bit slow during the pregnancy sequence. One will have a big smile on their face in the end.

The movie is now streaming on Netflix.
