Locke and Key Season 3 might be the final season for the show but, it sure looks like it is going to leave with a bang. The fantasy horror teen drama has become a cult classic over the years, pretty much like the comic-book series of the same name it is based on by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez. We have finally gotten a sneak peek into the third season of the show and some new keys have been revealed, a few more important than the other.
Developed by Carlton Cuse, Meredith Averill, and Aron Eli Coleite, Locke and Key first premiered on Netflix in 2020 with its second season following up in 2021. The show stars Darby Stanchfield, Connor Jessup, Emilia Jones, Jackson Robert Scott, Laysla De Oliveira, Petrice Jones, and Griffin Gluck amongst many others.
Like, every season, the third season will also involve a lot of ‘key’ discoveries. In the Locke and Key Season 3 trailer, we did see the mention of the timeshift key which has possible links to time travel. However, it was in a preview video released by Netflix that the entire origins of the key came to light. Let us find out more about it!

Locke and Key Season 3: The Timeshift Key
It is, of course, Bode who finds the new key called the Timeshift key hidden inside Keyhouse’s grandfather clock. The scene seems to be set during an event happening in or around Key House and Bode while crossing the grandfather clock hears whispers, only to find a new key hidden in it. Bode is joined by Jamie Bennett in a bit, who asks him if he knows how the key works.
Bode tries to see how the key works and rotates the dates on the grandfather clock which very subtly takes him to a different timeline and set of events that take place in the Key House. He is in the past. Bode tries to figure out which timeline he is but before he can investigate he has to hide due to the entry of two unknown figures.
We see a girl named Miranda and a boy named Benjamin with a chest. Benjamin locks the chest with a key that has been forged by the material from the cave. After that, he asks Miranda to try and break the chest open but Miranda is unsuccessful as the chest is sealed with the magic of the key making it indestructible and unopenable to anyone else. Bode is impressed and says ‘whoa’ out loud which does not keep him hidden anymore.

He discovers that the guy is Benjamin Locke, his ancestor. Bode introduces himself as a Locke and states that he is from the future. Although Miranda points out that there is no such key, Benjamin is quick enough to mention that there is no such key ‘yet’. It is very much possible that after Bode’s visit to the past Benjamin will forge the Timeshift Key next which will become the centre of attention this season as the villains will run behind it to change the past for them and our heroes will try to keep it intact.
