Lewis Capaldi How I’m Feeling Now is a brand-new docufilm following the Scottish singer’s instant fame and the pressures that came along with it. Directed by Joe Pearlman, the film dives deep inside the artist’s world that the audience rarely gets to witness. The documentary has a runtime of approximately 90 minutes.
Lewis Capaldi How I’m Feeling Now Major Takeaways
The docufilm uncovered major revelations related to the artist that affected his day-to-day life. Snippets of him making music were shown, and Capaldi was constantly trying to compare it to his previous hit singles. This indicated that he was feeling immense pressure to create phenomenal music rather than enjoying the process. From going on tour to working on his new album, the persistent work slowly started to impact him both physically and mentally.
Lewis Capaldi also discusses the Imposter syndrome that he developed following the massive success of his debut album, which was the best seller in the UK. It is a condition when someone finds difficulty accepting their success internally, despite being high-performing in external, objective ways. Elton John and Ed Sheeran helped him hugely during this time to make him believe that the success he experienced belonged to him and was a result of his hard work.
The singer’s need to create flawless music remained throughout. He worked relentlessly to release another wonderful album. However, he started to experience sudden issues. His arms started to twitch uncontrollably, and he brushed it off, thinking that it was due to his stress. Anxiety triggered his tics further, and it slowly started to create interference with his life. He was unable to attend shows due to it and even had to stop a concert in the middle due to its severity. At that point, his family decided to halt his activities and get him the help he needed.

Upon careful diagnosis, it was revealed that Capaldi had Tourette’s syndrome, and it alleviated due to constant anxiety and panic attacks. He and his family included were relieved by it since they found out the cause and could provide him with proper treatment to make his condition better.
After four months of break, he returned with a healthier body and mind. He again started to work on his album and released it. His tracks grabbed the top positions in the music charts in UK and internationally.
Apart from pressure in the music industry, the docufilm also showcases glimpses of young Capaldi, appearing to showcase a calmer and innocent version of the artist. He endured some grave traumatic events during his childhood which left a huge impression on him.
Those instances reflect in the music he composes and the lyrics he jots down. His viral song, Someone You Loved, is about his late grandmother, whom he loved dearly, and Before You Go is about his late Aunt, who took her own life and left a major emotional dent in his life.
